Holiday homes in Alicante

Alicante is often seen as the gateway to the famous seaside resorts on the Costa Blanca. Most visitors therefore mainly fly to Alicante to travel from there to their final destination. This is a real shame because there’s a lot to see and do in Alicante itself and in the immediate vicinity. The city has a rich history and many interesting cultural-historical sights. Plus, Alicante has a beautiful beach with all the facilities for a lovely holiday in the sun on the Costa Blanca. The 600-metre-long promenade - the Explanada - is one of the most beautiful places in the city and is seen as the symbol of Alicante. You can walk along the beach and choose from a wide range of shops and terraces, and if you’re not tired after a long day, you can also enjoy Alicante’s vibrant nightlife.

Exploring Alicante and the surrounding area

A holiday home in Alicante is an ideal base to explore the town and the surrounding areas. You can start by walking through the town itself. Most monuments can be found in the Old Town (Casco Antiguo), which you can easily explore on foot. The old Santa Cruz neighbourhood is just as fascinating, where the narrow cobblestone streets with authentic houses are built against the slopes of Monte Benecantil. On top of this 166-metre high hill lies the Castle of Santa Barbara, a complex of buildings and defensive walls that towers high above the city. Another must see is Alicante’s beautiful, modern marina. Just one look at the many sailing yachts and you’ll see that Alicante is a paradise for people who enjoy sailing and other water sports. From your holiday home, you’ll also be able to make many other nice trips in the area. One of our many recommendations is a visit to the ‘hanging castle’ of Guadalest, a former Islamic fortress near Benidorm.

Nice things to know about Alicante

  • The local (Valencian) name for Alicante is: ‘Alacant’.
  • The Volvo Ocean Race, the largest sailing competition in the world, has started three times in the port of Alicante. There’s a pier that is specially equipped for the sailing race.
  • Shopping in Alicante is no problem at all. Just behind the Explanada is Alicante's shopping area, with local boutiques, major chain stores and everything in between.
  • You can play golf at the 18-hole courses of Golf Bonalba (Mutxamel) and Alicante Golf (Playa San Juan).
  • As in all of Spain, football is the biggest sport in Alicante. The largest club is Hércules CF, which plays in the Segunda División. The club’s stadium is the Estadio José Rico Pérez.
