Holiday homes in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

If you love mountains and beautiful nature, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is the right place for you. Here, there are endless walks for enjoying the rich diversity of the landscape, with the majestic Alps, the impressive lakes in the valley of Verdon, the lavender fields on the plateau of Valensole. A holiday home in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is a great choice in one of the most beautiful regions in France. With Micazu, you book your holiday home directly with the owner. This way, you know exactly where you stand, and you’ll get a far better deal.

A splendid backdrop of sun and mountains

Because of its location on the southern side of the Alps, this region gets many hours of sunshine. This explains why the climate of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is also very pleasant in spring and autumn. In July and August, there’s plenty of hustle and bustle but during the rest of the year, you’ll be able to enjoy peace and quiet in beautiful nature homes. There’s Mercantour National Park, for example, with its numerous attractive walking routes, and the famous lake Lac d’Allos. Why not visit one of the lovely villages nearby, such as Sisteron, Mées and Forcalquier? This is where you can still taste the old France with its many traditions and delicious cuisine.

Fun facts about Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

  • Tip: include the village of Barcelonnette in your itinerary. In this picturesque village, at an altitude of 1,135 metres, you will come across – strangely enough – many Mexican and other Latin-American influences.
  • The lamb from Sisteron is famous throughout the world, and the designation of ‘Sisteron lamb’ must meet stringent criteria. The lambs must have been suckled by their mothers for two whole months in the area around Sisteron.
  • Until 1970, the official name of this region was ‘Basses-Alpes’. In that year, the name was changed to Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
