Holiday homes in Vorarlberg

Vorarlberg lies between the Bodensee and Arlberg, in the extreme west of Austria. This small but beautiful federal state is primarily known as an area for winter sports. The tall mountains and well laid-out ski runs are the backdrop for a wonderful winter sports holiday. But Vorarlberg is also a wonderful holiday destination in summer when it turns into a paradise for nature lovers. You can walk for hours on end in a diverse landscape of lakes, picturesque villages and tall mountain peaks. So, breathe in the fresh and healthy mountain air and choose a holiday home in Vorarlberg. Via Micazu, you always rent directly from the owner, which is both convenient and good value.

Enjoyment all the year around

Explore Vorarlberg from lovely little towns such as Mittelberg, Schruns or St. Gallenkirch. In winter, you can hit one of the lovely ski runs almost as soon as you step out of your holiday home. The Kleinwalsertal valley alone has as many as 47 ski lifts, ski runs covering 128 kilometres and cross-country skiing trails with a total length of 42 kilometres. From December until the end of April, pretty much every day is one for skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing. If you’re a keen mountain biker, you’ll find plenty of trails to challenge you both in winter and summer. There’s also a lot of culture to discover in Vorarlberg, and the city of Bregenz on the Bodensee is especially worth visiting. The old town has a rich array of cultural treasures, such as the splendid Herz. Jesu Kirche, for example, but also the St. Nepomuk Kapelle and the imposing monastery of Mehrerau.

Fun facts about Vorarlberg

  • The factory that makes the famous Milka chocolate is located in Vorarlberg, in the small town of Bludenz.
  • Vorarlberg was once home to a famous brown bear, JJ2, who crossed the Alps in 2004 having come from Italy. JJ2 has not been seen for many years and it is feared that he met his end by falling into a ravine.
  • A typical product of this region is the Walser Stoltz, a cheese from the Grosse Walsertal valley.
  • Traditionally the population of Vorarlberg has been strongly oriented towards Switzerland. This is because the tall Arlberg forms a natural barrier with the other parts of Austria.
