Holiday homes in Schoorldam
In the north of the
North Holland province, less than an hour's drive from
Amsterdam, lies the rustic town of Schoorldam. The North Holland Canal, an old waterway that was dug in the 19th century by order of King Willem I, runs right through the village. This is why Schoorldam literally consists of two parts. The western part belongs to the municipality of
Bergen, the eastern part to the municipality of
Schagen. When you rent a holiday home in Schoorldam you can also enjoy the best of both worlds in other aspects. On one hand, you’ll have the dunes and the North Sea, so you can fully enjoy the
sun, sea and sand in summer. On the other hand you can really enjoy its
nature homes, with lovely nature reserves and picturesque villages such as Eenigenburg, Warmenhuizen and Burgerbrug.
Exploring Schoorldam and the surrounding area
A holiday home in Schoorldam is an ideal choice for those who are looking for a lot of
privacy. The place itself has a number of beautiful sights. The natural seafront alone is worth seeing. On summer days, ships and pleasure boats float past here all day long. From Schoorldam you can also take many nice trips in the local area. The Schoorl dunes are great for
walking. You should definitely visit the village of
Schoorl. Or if you’d rather go
cycling it will only take you thirty minutes to reach other nice seaside resorts and villages in the area, such as
Callantsoog and
Sint Maartenszee. So there are plenty of reasons to go for a holiday home in Schoorldam. This is also true for families with children, because the Goudvis amusement park, as well as a playground and a swimming pool are all nearby, so there is always something to do.

Nice things to know about Schoorldam
- Schoorldam was originally a hamlet of Schoorl. The first part of the name is said to be derived from the Germanic word ‘skaurna’, which meant’ coast" (the English word shore is also derived from this). The second part is probably derived from the word ‘lo’ or ‘loo’, which meant forest.
- The 126-kilometre-long West Frisian Dike that runs along Schoorldam was already built in the Middle Ages. The dike is now the backdrop for a variety of events, such as the Tour of North Holland and the Karavaan street theatre.
- Tip for a daytrip: the cheese market in Alkmaar and the traditional Dutch market in Schagen.
