Holiday homes in Ripabottoni

Ripabottoni is a beautiful medieval village in the Molise region. The town was founded in the thirteenth century and has managed to keep its age-old charm. A walk through the small streets and alleys of Ripabottoni will take you through the rich history of this region. The beautiful church in the old village centre is dedicated to Saint Mary. The church contains a number of special artistic treasures, including beautiful frescoes and drawings by the famous painter Paolo Gamba. In the village there are also a few small shops, a pharmacy, a post office and a couple of bars. And of course you can also enjoy a delicious pizza in Ripabottoni: the village has one of the best pizzerias in the region!

Daytrips from Ripabottoni

Getting up and enjoying a cup of coffee on your own terrace, admiring the view and then taking a refreshing dip in your private swimming pool – that’s what a holiday in Italy is all about. Ripabottoni itself is an oasis of peace and quiet, but there is plenty to see and do in the area. A holiday home in Ripabottoni is therefore an excellent base for nice daytrips. There are many beautiful routes for walking and cycling. These often lead straight through nature and past picturesque villages such as Casacalenda and Oratino. A particularly beautiful walk takes you on a 15-kilometre long ‘tratturo’ - an ancient shepherd's path - to the small town of Benefro. You can also go to the beach for the day. Within 45 minutes you’ll be at the nice seaside resort of Termoli. Visiting in August? Then don’t miss 22 August, when the inhabitants of Termoli celebrate the feast of Madonna delle Stelle.

Nice things to know about Ripabottoni:

  • The locals usually shorten the name of their village to Ripa.
  • The painter Paolo Gamba was born in Ripa in 1712. He was one of the greatest painters of the Molise region.
  • Although Ripabottoni is very beautiful, it’s not part of Molise's four "borghi più belli". Places with the unofficial "most beautiful village" mark are: Fornelli, Frosolone, Oratino and Sepino.
  • Tip for a daytrip: a visit to Campobasso, the capital of Molise. Major attractions are the Castel Montforte and the churches of San Giorgio and San Bartelomeo.
