Trips from your holiday home
The village can be recognised from afar by a special building: the 303 metre high transmission mast of Hoogersmilde. This huge tower has been used to transmit radio, television and telecommunications signals since 1956. But most visitors come here to admire the beautiful nature around Hoogersmilde. To the south of the village lies the Leggerveld, part of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. This beautiful nature reserve is the habitat for many rare plant and animal species. So keep your eyes wide open because there are vipers, red-breasted wheats and large heather butterflies about. To the east of Hoogersmilde lies the Blauwe Meer (Blue Lake), a large recreational lake where you can sunbathe and swim during the summer months. Other attractions in the area include the zoo in
Emmen, the pretty town of
Giethoorn and various amusement parks, such as Hellendoorn Adventure Park and Slagharen Ponypark.
