Holiday homes in Désaignes

Désaignes is a medieval village in the heart of the Doux valley, one of the most beautiful regions in the Ardèche. The landscape of the ‘haut vivarais’ is a green mix of forests, fields, rolling hills and authentic villages. Désaignes is a wonderful destination for a cycling or walking holiday in France. Here you will find numerous cycling routes and hiking trails that cover a wide area. They run straight through the most beautiful nature reserves and lead along rivers, lakes and beautiful places such as Lamastre and Saints-Agrève. Here you can go shopping, visit museums and choose from excellent restaurants, nice terraces and cosy bars.

A walk through history

There is also plenty to see and do in Désaignes itself. A walk through the narrow streets of the village will give you a good impression of the history of this region. The biggest eye-catcher is the castle from the 14th century, which has been opened to the public following extensive restoration. The old Barbière fountain, the Romanesque church, a beautiful temple and a number of Gothic-style houses are also worth a visit. Désaignes is a popular haven for artists and craftsmen. Many buildings are used as studios for painters, sculptors and pottery makers. The village is also the setting for several traditional festivals every year, such as a great medieval festival in August and the "Chestnut Festival" during the autumn holidays (October).
