Interesting facts about Aljezur

In 1755, Aljezur was hit by a severe earthquake. After the earthquake, a new neighbourhood was built: "Igreja Nova", which means "New Church". At the time, the district was still brand new.
The Costa Vicentina nature reserve is one of the thirteen official nature parks in Portugal. It is the park with the largest coastline in all of Europe.
Lovers of sport fishing can book beautiful boat trips from Praia da Arrifana.
Aljezur has a number of interesting museums, including the José Cercas Museum (with work by the Aljezur-born painter José Cercas), an archaeological and antiquities museum and a gallery with exhibits of contemporary art.
