Amel is not as well-known as other places in the Belgian Ardennes, such as Durbuy, Dinant or Houffalize. But there are plenty of things you can do and see in and around Amel. The Hoge Venen is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Belgium. It’s a gently sloping plateau with a special ecosystem and a great place to walk and cycle. On your way you might see some deer, wild boars and maybe even a lynx. There are many mountain biking routes in the vicinity of Amel. If you want to visit a museum or go shopping, you can go to slightly larger towns such as Sankt Vith or Malmédy. These little towns are also famous for their ancient traditions and the annual vibrant carnival festival.
