Holiday homes in Colmenar
Colmenar is one of the ‘white villages’ which are so typical in
Andalusia. The village is also called the capital of Montes de
Málaga, which is the name of the lovely nature reserve between Colmenar and Málaga. Thanks to its central location, Colmenar is an ideal base for exploring the area. However, a car or hire car is recommended if you want to visit most of the sights. It will take you thirty minutes to drive to Málaga, one of the most famous seaside resorts on the
Costa del Sol. There are other coastal towns which are perfect for a day at the beach, like
Torremolinos, Nerja and
Marbella. Nature lovers can drive on to the Montes de Málaga, where you can go for lovely walks. Enjoy the peace and quiet and be amazed by the special flora and fauna. Keep your eyes and ears wide open as the area is home to badgers, stone martens, weasels and a host of other wildlife.
Have a great time in Colmenar
A holiday home in Colmenar is a good choice all year round. It can be pretty warm in July and August, but the temperatures are normally very pleasant in spring and autumn. Colmenar itself is a charming village with a mainly agricultural background. Local farmers produce olives, almonds and dairy products. The landscape consists of hills covered in vast meadows and orchards which are surrounded by steep mountains. Colmenar has a few interesting sights. On top of a hill is the hermitage of La Santísima Virgen de la Candelaria, a historic monument from the 17th century. The hermitage is dedicated to Colmaenar's patron saint. Furthermore, the village has all necessary amenities: a bank, a mini supermarket, a bakery, a butcher and of course a wide choice of authentic tapas bars.
