Interesting facts about Stegeren
- A typical regional dish is "kruudmoes", with barley (peeled barley), buttermilk, bacon, smoked sausage, raisins and fresh herbs ("kruud") as its main ingredients. Kruudmoes is eaten warm, lukewarm and cold.
- Stegeren is a typical example of an ‘esdorp’. These arose in the early Middle Ages on a common, higher-lying field (an es).
- Stegeren is called ‘Steeger’ in the Salland dialect.
- The Sallandse Heuvelrug is home to the last population of grouse in the Netherlands; a rare bird in danger of extinction.
