Rustic holiday homes in Bagni di Lucca

Bagni di Lucca is a collection of medieval villages in the north of Tuscany. These are located in the valley of the river Serchio, which has been flowing through the hills past the towns of Lucca, Bagni di Lucca and Barga for centuries. Bagni di Lucca is known worldwide as a luxury spa town, thanks to the thermal waters from natural springs in the area. You must certainly visit a spa in Bagni di Lucca. With its rich culture and history, this place has a lot more to offer, but it’s mainly the surrounding area that makes Bagni di Lucca so attractive. Here you will find plenty of nature homes and holiday homes with a lot of privacy. The owner can tell you a lot more about this, because you will always have direct contact with each other when you book through Micazu.

Exploring the area of Bagni di Lucca

A holiday home in Bagni di Lucca is a perfect base to explore the area. The town is close to one of Italy's largest national parks, Garfagnana. Here you will find beautiful walking and cycling routes, that lead through the most beautiful natural reserves in Tuscany. The village of Borgo a Mozzano is just three kilometres from Bagni di Lucca. Here you can admire the famous Ponte del Diavolo - the Devil's Bridge. Other pretty villages are Fornoli, Ponte a Serraglio and La Villa - the ‘main village’ of Bagni di Lucca. These are typical Italian places, with small restaurants, nice cafes and a maze of small streets where you can walk and shop to your heart’s content. Nice things to know about Bagni di Lucca:

  • The thermal waters of Bagni di Lucca come from two natural springs, the Grotta Grande and the Grotta Paolina. The latter is named after a sister of Emperor Napoleon, who often visited here.
  • Another sister of Napoleon, Elisa Bacocchio, also often visited Bagni di Lucca. At that time she was Duchess of Lucca and had the road built into the town.
  • Bagni di Lucca means something like ‘the baths of Lucca’, a reference to the thermal baths.
  • Italy has more places that are called Bagni, such as Bagni in Umbria (municipality of Nocera Umbra) and Bagni di Contursi in Campania (municipality of Contursi Terme).
