Holiday homes on the Costa Brava

In northeast Spain, you’ll find the Costa Brava. This coast begins just across the border with France and carries on until the famous resort of Blanes. Other popular holiday destinations on the Costa Brava include Malgrat de Mar, Empuriabrava and Lloret de Mar. During July and August, the beaches can be quite crowded. Nevertheless, the authentic fishing villages haven’t lost all of their atmosphere. The tourist attractions go hand in hand with a vibrant night life, clear blue seas and extensive beaches. The smaller villages, those located towards the more mountainous north, have smaller beaches, most of which are hidden in tiny coves. Holiday homes on the Costa Brava are widely available, including long term rental. Micazu is a firm believer in direct contact, which means that you book directly with the owner, which is quick, convenient and great value.

Costa Brava: the culinary Costa

Of course, the Costa Brava is known for its sunshine, sea and beaches, but there’s a lot more for you to discover in this beautiful region. We highly recommend a trip to Gerona. The ancient Jewish quarter with its centrally located municipal museum is well worth a visit. Other towns with a variety of medieval attractions include Tossa de Mar. You can also visit several castles on the Costa Brava. ‘Castell La Ciutadella’ in Roses is one of them. If you want to explore the region’s culinary delights, you won’t be disappointed, and there are two distinct cuisines. On the coast, you’ll find a lot of fish on the menu, whereas in the mountainous north, meat is a more popular alternative, such as mutton and pork. And of course, the Costa Brava is dotted with tapas bars offering local specialties like calamari, prawns and sardines.

Fun facts about the Costa Brava

  • The Costa Brava is sometimes known as the Wild or Rough Coast due to its many rocks and rugged cliff faces.

  • The Costa Brava has its own (Catalan) name for the famous gastronomic ‘surf & turf’ combo (fish and meat combined): ‘May y Mantagna’, which literally means ‘sea and mountains’.
  • As this area is so popular with Dutch tourists, the Costa Brava is also known to them as ‘home away from home’.
  • Famous artist Salvador Dalí was born on the Costa Brava, in Figueres, a small town close to the Pyrenees.
