Gîte / Cottage

In the summer of 2018 we went to live in Chassagnas, after having had a B&B on Terschelling for more than 10 years. Our house is a large former farm. On the same site is a farmhouse from about 1910. We rent this as a holiday home, or in French "gite". We have the gite called "Au vieux Verger" (In the old orchard).

There are old apple, pear and nut trees on the grounds of the gite. You will also find raspberries and figs. All of course to be picked by our guests, in season. The gite is detached and there is privacy in relation to us, owners. Directly at the house and further into the large garden there are opportunities to relax. Both in the sun and more in the shade. Directly opposite the gite is a covered terrace with a table with four chairs. There is also the old bread oven, which still functions well; for a cozy fire or for example for baking pizzas. More in the mood for a tasty barbecue? That is also available. Deeper into the garden / orchard we had a spacious sun terrace laid in the winter of 2019. And to complete the French feeling, I also made a court for boules or petanque. Petanque balls are present.

Inside the house is nicely furnished. In the living area is a wood stove in the old fireplace. But there are also electric radiators in all rooms, so that it is also comfortable in the colder months. All Dutch and many foreign channels can be received on the flat screen TV. Of course there is also wifi. The open kitchen contains a large oven, a combi microwave and a fridge-freezer combination. There is also a dishwasher. There is also a small breakfast table in the kitchen. For those evenings when dining is not possible outside, there is a cozy dining room with a farmer's table and chairs. There is also a spacious bathroom on the ground floor with a bathtub and toilet. The three bedrooms are on the first floor. We have recently installed new beds. Two rooms have double beds (1.60 x 2.00) and there is a single room. The beds are made ready for you upon arrival. Optionally with a double or two single duvets. On this floor you will find the second bathroom with shower and toilet. Bed and bath linen are included. If you want to come a little longer and want to run a wash, you can use the washing machine in the large shed.

Our own house is built above old stables. A sauna has been realized in one of them. This is available in the colder months for guests for a small supplement. Chassagnas is a so-called "lieu dit", a hamlet without street names and house numbers. Everybody knows each other. At 3 km. distance is the larger town of La Croisille sur Briance. There you will find a small supermarket, a bakery, bar / tabac, garage, restaurant Chez Kevin and a pharmacy. Chateauneuf la Foret is a 20-minute drive away. That is a larger place with a large supermarket, the Super U. If you descend the road to Chateuneuf you will see all the big lake below. A beautiful place where you can swim in the summer. There is a sandy beach with child protection in the summer. Do you like water (sports)? In the area there are lakes and ponds at various locations, suitable for recreation. La Croisille also has such a small lake. For real water sports enthusiasts, one of the largest reservoirs in France can be reached within an hour: the Lac de Vassiviere. with its historic center, is a 45-minute drive from Chassagnas.Culinair you also have nothing short of it. Visit one of the many markets in the area and buy the most delicious regional products. La Croisille there every 18th of the month alone, but at other times you can go to neighboring villages. Moreover, you can eat at very reasonable prices in the many restaurants. A three-course lunch menu of the day sometimes costs less than 15 euros. All in all, you can enjoy the real French life in the Limousin. The pace here is pleasant, the people are friendly. And after a day at the lake, a day trip to one of the historic towns or cities (for example Uzerche, Brive) it is wonderful to come home to Au Vieux Verger where you can enjoy the last sun with a glass of wine.

In 2007 we, Jan Janse and Peter Schuren, decided to release our certainties to run a guesthouse / B & B on the island of Terschelling. We did this with great pleasure, because hospitality is very important to us. In 2018 we took the next step: moved to France and fell in love with the Limousin. Bought a house with a gite, so that we can let guests share in what this region has to offer. Hopefully we will once receive you Au Vieux Verger.
