Gîte / Cottage

La Combe de la Fuste

8.6

You are a guest in a simple but cozy and practical house.

The house has central heating and a wood stove.
Downstairs are the living room and the kitchen. In the living room there are two easy armchairs and a round dining table with chairs. The kitchen includes a fridge, hob, microwave and oven; a washing machine in the utility room.

On the floor is an open sleeping area with a double bed and a single bed. Adjacent to the sleeping area is a bathroom with bath-shower, sink and toilet.
There is wifi available.

In front of the house is a terrace with seating for outdoor dining, and there are plenty of lazy chairs in the garden. You have a view of the valley that is bordered by forest.

You can use the swimming pool of 9.00 x 4.70 and also the sun terrace by the pool.

Our house is on the same site, but between our house and the gîte is a large house, which is used as a recreation room, including a table tennis table. Our total area is 8 hectares.

The holiday home is located between the two great rivers Dordogne and Lot. Oak forest is interspersed with farmyards and small fields, walnut orchards and vineyards.

The location is very favorable for numerous excursions to sights in the area, such as prehistoric and other caves, medieval castles and towns, a pottery village, workshops of "artisans", the Zadkin Museum, interesting gardens and markets.

The beautiful surroundings invite to activities such as hiking, cycling, swimming and canoeing. See below for more information about the area. But you can also stay close to home and enjoy the peace in the garden or swim and sunbathe on the sun terrace.
In the village is the "chai" (wine making and storage) of the Vin de Domme, the wine of this region, where you can taste wine without any obligation. At the chai there is a lookout tower, from which you can see Auvergne in clear weather. Opposite is a brasserie with terraces and views over the vineyards.

But there are of course also the wine castles a bit to the south along the Lot: the Vin de Cahors.

Those who enjoy good food can indulge themselves (and loosen the belly belt) in one of the many restaurants with regional dishes or with more refined French cuisine.

Regional products are the duck pâté and the foie gras, saffron and walnuts (walnut tart!), Truffles, cèpes (boletus bread) and strawberries, and fresh goat cheese. Here you will find real peace and quiet and you can enjoy beautiful starry skies.

At about 4 km distance there are two villages with pharmacy, post office, bakers, butcher and small supermarket and at 14 km is a provincial town (Gourdon) with many shops and large supermarkets.

The Saturday market of Sarlat is a concept for many tourists, as is the Sunday market in St. Cyprien. But for the enthusiast there are even more markets and even closer to home, where you can find "products from the farm", both during the week and on Sunday.

Location & tips

Additional information

Your holiday home is ideally located: between the Dordogne and Lot rivers, which means you can avoid the hustle and bustle of campsites and water activities. The tourist attractions such as the medieval towns of Domme and Sarlat and the imposing castles and wonderful villages such as la Roque-Gageac and Beynac along the Dordogne are close by, as is the center of prehistory in Les Eyzies. To the south, the city of Cahors can be reached within an hour: a southern city with a wide boulevard and charming shops, and a well-known center (market hall, large Romanesque church, etc.). To the east on the other side of the A20, the landscape becomes different: cliffs, caves, abysses, valleys and limestone plateaus make this area magnificent. Typical for this protected site are the dried out grazing lands with stone walls, the beautiful buildings and the lovely caselles and gariottes, the small huts in dry (without cement) stone. The famous pilgrim town of Rocamadour, the perched village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, the famous cave of Pech-Merle and the impressive "gouffre" of Padirac, are almost too much to discover. There are hiking trails right from home, and there are hiking and cycling trails throughout the area. It is hilly, but good to walk, and you come through hamlets with farms of honey colored natural stone, along water places, orchards of truffleiken or walnuts, oak forests etc. Because the landscape is so small-scale, it never bores and you always make new discoveries . Especially in the summer the villages compete by organizing all sorts of activities: brocantes and flea markets, concerts, picnics and meals at long tables in honor of the village festival, where everyone is welcome. There is a lot to do for those who want to. Swimming is possible except in our own swimming pool, in the Dordogne or the Lot or in various lakes in the area. Canoes can be rented for a full or half day (with transport back to the starting point). Hot air balloon flights and flights from Domme airport 15 minutes away are possible. An 18-hole golf course is 30 minutes away. Horse riding at one of the riding schools in the area also belongs to the possible activities. In August, an international documentary festival is organized in open air in Gindou. And also in August there is a cello festival in Belaye, just below the river Lot. In the gîte is a folder with all kinds of tourist information, and you can always contact us for the most up-to-date information.
EP from Oegstgeest, visited in August 2017. We at Heleen and Max enjoyed a real relaxing holiday, with peace in a beautiful environment. In the beautiful garden of La Combe de la Fuste they were waiting for us, warmly, an open arms reception. Our heavy suitcases are worn, we have never experienced that. The cottage is truly beautiful in all its simplicity. What a picture. And everything, really everything is there. Also flowers in a vase on the terrace table and a welcome card with a delicious Domme wine. The hospitality of Heleen and Max knows no bounds. A delicious welcome dinner on the beautiful terrace. The many information we receive about the environment and the trust they have given us, as completely unknown guests. Everything is allowed, everything is possible. We can even prepare the pool if we want to swim early in the morning. They are invisibly present, with appropriate interest and attention. When the weather was not right and the heating did not work, they were immediately ready with a heat gun to expel the moisture from the air. The advice, such as a visit to the Zadkine museum, was very valuable. When we returned home, it felt like leaving home. A big compliment and thanks for their indescribable hospitality
BS from Woerden, Visited in September 2018 A beautiful comfortable cottage in a beautiful landscape (Combe). Enjoyed the hospitality, space, tranquility and beautiful surroundings. Excursions in the area both culinary and cultural. Every time it was cozy coming home in the more than well-equipped house. Not to forget: the swimming pool and the culinary delights of Max and Heleen. Merci et a bientot.
