Location & tips

Additional information

In Village Le Chat is already a lot to experience but if you want to see more of the area than there are some nice places where you could go. In the immediate vicinity you can walk and a little further than the park you will find the town of Montbron where you can get groceries or a candle can light up in the small church Saint Maurice (dates from the 11th century) where you drive along on the way to the grocery store. Montbron is an old town with a rich history and in the summer months the local Information sometimes wants to organize a torch parade to tell you its rich history. Inform now and then, because it is not given every week. But if possible, it is definitely worth it. A little outside Montbron is the village of St. Sornin with its large wine cellar. The cave is open to visitors and the wine they sell is very tasty. Always does well as a gift for the home front. Another beautiful place in the area is La Rochefoucauld with its castle of the same name. Part of the castle can be visited. with a guide as the other part is still inhabited by the Countess of La Rochefoucauld. Fun for children, on the top floor is a large room decorated with dressing clothes for both young and old. Angouleme the capital of the Charente is definitely worth a visit. This city is known as a comic strip city. Every year in January a 3-day comic festival is held here. If you look closely at the street name signs you will see that they are written in a text balloon like you see in a comic strip. If you pay attention, you will also see all kinds of comic strips on various walls. Bordeaux is the city of wine and is so comprehensive that I can not get rid of it here. In Villars you will find beautiful caves that are definitely worth a visit. In the usually quiet village of Piegut there is a market on Wednesday morning. Limoges is known for its beautiful and delicate porcelain. La Rochelle is a beautiful historic fishing village and the city of Cognac does not need an explanation. In short there is a lot to see and experience in the area.
During your stay it is certainly worthwhile to pay a visit to this castle. On the top floor of this castle, both children and their parents can dress up and experience how they would have looked in the 11th century. Important detail, on Tuesday the castle is closed.
This memorial is built to commemorate all soldiers and heroes who have fought in the Charente and Charente Maritime. In front of this monument are the graves of all cases. Not only from French resistance heroes, but also resistance heroes of another nationality who fought for France. There are too many to mention them all here. Very impressive and it makes you aware of what the 2nd World War left behind in this region. Visit every day for free. Enough parking space and there is a guide available.
If you come from the direction of Village le Chat, you drive past it on the way to the supermarket. But this little sweet church is definitely worth a visit. Built somewhere in the 11th century and restored several times. Because this church has really endured all kinds of looting during the times of religious wars, both the 1st and 2nd World War as well as a lightning strike in 1883. Is not it because of his old history that you go there. Then drop by to light a candle at Mother Mary or the Holy Anthonius, the patron saint of travelers.
This vast lake is a must on very hot days, especially if you have children. You can walk in the lake or swim from the beach or swim or you can play volleyball on the other side of the entrance or have a picnic under the trees. Picnic tables are present with a nice playground for the small children nearby. You can also rent a canoe to sail around the whole lake. Life guards protect the water and the people who are present and of course they also have a first aid post here. Free access and enough parking space.
Just next to Lake St. Estephé is a nature reserve. You can walk here and enjoy nature. If you see this sign at the entrance you're fine. Not everyone knows about this quiet piece of green. If you walk down the path completely you will reach a large rock party. Here lies a loose rock. That is to say, where the rock is located, a dimple has developed through the wearing out of the water. This allows the rock to move back and forth, but not fall over. If you are strong, try it out.
Just outside Chassenon you will find the special Parc Archeologique Cassinomagus. Here you can visit the archaeological remains of the ancient Gallo-Roman baths. In the high season they organize all sorts of events that are well worth a visit.
Near Montbron lies the town of Saint Sornin. However small this place is, it does have a very large vineyard, tasting and of course a shop. This wine is delicious and always a huge success as a gift for the home front. Certainly for those who have looked after your house, while you enjoy your holiday in "Le Beau Chat". Nice to know the vineyard is known since the Middle Ages and famous here in the area.
The nature around the park "Village le Chat" is very diverse. From forest to country views. You can find it all. That is why you can also enjoy hiking in the area. Are you going to do that at dusk at the end of the evening, then you might still encounter deer.
La Rochelle is a very nice old fishermen and harbor town with its picturesque center. His old history can still be felt through the entrance of the harbor. Sitting on a terrace and eating a freshly caught fish is of course a plus here. In the harbor you can also take a boat trip to Fort Boyard and the islands Ile de Ré, Ile d 'Oléron and Ile d' Aix.
