Villa Sorpresa and casa Mirador

Villa Sorpresa and casa Mirador are located on the south side at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. A high mountain range with beautiful nature where you can even ski until April. The Mulhacén is the highest mountain peak on the Spanish mainland.
On the north side, a 35-minute drive away, is Granada, a city to fall in love with. It stole our hearts. Granada has a lot to offer. There are beautiful city districts such as the Moorish district of Albaicin and the cave district of Sacromonte, one of the cradles of Flamenco where performances are provided throughout the year. You are carried away by the temperament, the emotion, the energy, the music, the dance and especially the rhythm. A visit to a Flamenco performance is an absolute must. Granada has countless charming narrow streets and cozy squares with bars and restaurants in the shade of large plane trees, various city parks and countless shops and boutiques.
Granada also has a beautiful cathedral. The Alhambra is a World Heritage Site and is the biggest attraction visited by tourists from all over the world.
Other cities include Malaga and Almeria (both are 75 minutes away). Furthermore, Seville, Ronda and Cordoba are beautiful cities that can be reached within a day and are well worth a visit. Finally, cities such as Marbella, Cadiz, Gibraltar or Jerez de la Frontera can also be reached within a day.
The N340 westbound coastal road is stunningly beautiful. You will pass the coastal towns of Salobreña (small white town built in a mountainside with an old Moorish castle on top), the charming town of Almuñecar and not to forget Nerja with its stalactite caves, beautiful beaches and the balcony of Europe where street musicians almost always provide the real Spanish atmosphere and where tourists from all parts of the world come to.
Just a 10-minute drive away is Playa Granada with numerous beach restaurants where you can enjoy Tapas dishes and a drink during the day at a very affordable price and have a delicious dinner in the evening. Golf courses can also be found here. The eastern side of the N 340 is (even) less known, but is becoming more and more popular because there are many quiet bays with snorkeling spots as well as naturist beaches. As an example, I would like to mention Playa de la Rijana. The sea at this small idyllic bay surrounded by rocks is a snorkeling spot with crystal clear water where you can enjoy fish and coral such as starfish in the underwater world. The place is right on the N340 just a 20 minute drive between Calahonda and Castell de Ferro. There is generally ample parking space. Please note! This is on the left side of the road. From there, you can reach the bay on foot through a tunnel under the road.
The city of Motril is 7 minutes away and has large supermarkets and other shops, banks, restaurants, cozy terraces, etc., but also a harbor with ferry connections to Morocco, among others.
If you love nature, then in addition to the Sierra Nevada, a walk through the Caminito del Rey is certainly a 'must do'. The drive there can be done in two hours.
Restaurants:
There are so many restaurants within a radius of 15 km that you can eat in a different restaurant every day for a year, so to speak. Most restaurants are of excellent quality and especially if you consider the location, the prices are significantly lower than in the Netherlands and a Tapas is almost always served with a drink.
As favorites, we would like to mention four of them:
1. Hotel Mibo has a top culinary restaurant with haute cuisine cuisine. It is beautifully located right on the N340 just past Salobreña. From the restaurant you have a breathtaking view of the valley of Playa Granada and the illuminated castle of Salobreña.
2. Playa del Peñon is a restaurant that is located on a rocky outcrop on the beach of Salobreña. The restaurant serves delicious fish dishes such as Pulpa Brasa (fresh squid roasted on an open fire) and Mejiliones à la Andaluza (fresh large mussels in a delicious tomato sauce). In the evening you have a beautiful atmospheric view of the sea and the illuminated town of Salobreña.
3. L'Osteria is a super cozy restaurant on the boulevard of Almuñecar with Italian cuisine. For a very reasonable price you can eat delicious food here and the service is very friendly. Mientje and I eat here every week.
4. Suhnara Beach club is a cozy restaurant on the beach of Playa Granada. It is about a 10-minute drive away and has Spanish cuisine. The dishes are of very good quality and the service is very friendly.
