Nice things to know about Rhenen
- The Grebbeberg is the best known, but not the only hill in Rhenen. Other hills are: the Elsterberg, Prattenburgse Berg, Sparreboomsche Berg, Buurtsche Berg, Paasheuvel, Thymse Berg, Koerheuvel, Donderberg and the Laarschenberg.
- The name Rhenen was first mentioned in the year 855 as ‘villa Hreni’, which means something like ‘Rhenen Neighbourhood’.
- Ouwehands Zoo is named after its founder: Cor Ouwehand from Rotterdam.
- Various famous Dutch people were born and raised in Rhenen, including former football player Edo Ophof and political commentator Sywert van Lienden. Dutch TV personality Mies Bouwman also lived here.
