- The thermal waters of Bagni di Lucca come from two natural springs, the Grotta Grande and the Grotta Paolina. The latter is named after a sister of Emperor Napoleon, who often visited here.
- Another sister of Napoleon, Elisa Bacocchio, also often visited Bagni di Lucca. At that time she was Duchess of Lucca and had the road built into the town.
- Bagni di Lucca means something like ‘the baths of Lucca’, a reference to the thermal baths.
