Gîte / Cottage

This village house is located in the village of Arnay-sous-Vitteaux (over 100 inhabitants). The name of the house refers to the function it had in earlier times: the bread for the whole village was brought here by a baker from a larger village further away. It is located on 2000 m² of private land and has a living space of 65 m². In addition to a living room/kitchen, it has 2 bedrooms (double bed and 2 single beds) and a bathroom. This bathroom is accessible from the bedroom with the 2-pers. bed. There is also a large garden (1500 m²) at the rear and a large and extremely sunny terrace on two levels (25 + 15 m²), with a wide view of the adjacent meadows, an orchard and the hills in the background.

The entrance of this gte gives access to the spacious, cozy kitchen with an authentic tiled floor. This is fully equipped with a stove, refrigerator and oven. In addition to a spacious dining table, there is a sitting area and a cupboard with books, DVDs, games, radio and a TV with DVD player and WiFi (fiber optic). There is also plenty of information (and hiking map) about the area available. There is also a beautiful fireplace in this room with a wood stove that can be used on the cooler days in the early or late season. The house has two spacious bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed and from this room you also have access to the bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet. The other bedroom has two single beds. Both have a wardrobe. In the spacious basement under the living area there is also a washing machine and bicycles can be placed. There is also a BBQ available. At the back of the house is a very spacious and sunny terrace on 2 levels. This terrace offers a view of a large private lawn, the orchard behind it, the adjacent meadows and the hills in the background. Arnay-sous-Vitteaux is a quiet village with over 100 inhabitants. It has no shops, but the bakery does pass by almost every day. Supermarkets and other shops can be found in the nearby towns of Vitteaux and Venarey-les-Laumes (8 and 12 km respectively).
In the nearby Sainte Colombe-en-Auxois we also rent out a beautifully situated holiday home for 2 people. This house ("La Petite Colombe") can also be found on this site.

We, Menno and Anne-Lise, hiring many years authentic vacation in the beautiful Burgundy. Initially from the Netherlands, but later we have finally located near our houses. Because we do business from the home in the "Château de Sainte Colombe," we keep almost full-time with the home rental process. This means that we are always accountable directly with any questions or problems. Au revoir!

Additional information

Hartelijke groet,

Gijsbert, Ester, Izaak & Felix

Daarnaast hebben we heel veel oude stadjes bezocht, o.a.

Sainte-Colombe-en-Auxois is from Utrecht 7.5 hours in the hills of the Côte d'Or (Burgundy). The village has 60 inhabitants and is very picturesque. The castle (exhibitions) takes an important place in and there are include an ancient church and a "lavoir". From Sainte Colombe there are many possibilities for walking, by bicycle or by pulling the car. The famous trail of Julius Caesar (Alésia / Bibracte) goes through the village. Sainte Colombe has no shops, but several times a week the baker and butcher along. Marigny-Le-Cahouët, which lies a few kilometers away, there is also a small shop with bread and basic foods. A little further, about 10 km., Are the places Vitteaux, Venarey-Les-Laumes and Semur-en-Auxois. Here are found the larger supermarkets and other stores. Besides the many hiking possibilities (a detailed map is in each house), it is also quite possible to have a (sporting) bike outing. The area is hilly, but cycling is generally doing very well. The cycling paths along the nearby "Canal de Bourgogne" are also very rewarding and offer the opportunity to reasonably "close" cycle. For mountain bikers, there are special routes. nearby there are also opportunities for swimming; the reservoir in Grosbois, the "Lac de Pont" in Semur-en-Auxois, Vitteaux in the pool, the swimming pool in Venarey-Les-Laumes or the pool in "Parc de l'Auxois" in Arnay-sous-Vitteaux. There is also near a riding stable where horses can be rented. There are also golf courses in the area as in Venarey-Les-Laumes, but also in Précy-sous-Thil (9 holes) and the superb golf course "Chateau de Chailly" (9 and 18 holes) at Pouilly-en-Auxois . For lovers can around there (in Hauteroche and Saffres) also be made to rock climbing. In the house there is a folder that contains a lot of information about the area. There are also fun throughout the season markets (vide grenier) to visit nearby. Yet a few of the many places in the area that are well worth a visit: Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, a picturesque, walled village in the neighborhood. It is one of the most beautiful listed villages in France and was also the setting for the movie "Chocolat". Also here for centuries by monks produced little aniseed balls. Also very close is Alise Saint Reine (Alesia). Here the excavations can be visited (and since 2012 also the wonderful museum "MuséoParc Alesia") of the Gallo-Roman settlement. Julius Caesar defeated here in 52 v. Chr. the Gaulish army commanded by Vercingetorix. Despite the loss the latter remained a hero, and there is also a impressive statue nearby. Semur-en-Auxois is a beautiful Mediaeval settlement (city walk) with a pleasant center and shops. Dijon, the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy with its stately mansions, interesting museums, beautiful gardens, parks and of course .... mustard! Beaune, the city of burgundy wine and for instance Hotel Dieu, a hospital founded in the Middle Ages, many museums and numerous wine cellars. Montbard on which the natural historian Buffon has left his mark, but certainly the Abbey of Fontenay. In a quiet forest here is one of the most beautiful and incredibly well-preserved Cistercian monasteries, which is placed on the world heritage of UNESCO. In the 12th century this was a sober, self-sufficient economy with perhaps the first mechanical forge the world. There is Montbard also a gorgeous (indoor) swimming pool complex; "Le Centre Nautique Amphitrite". The Bussy-Rabutin Castle in the small village The sources of the Seine in Saint-Germain-Source-Seine. Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, a beautiful village situated high up with attractive old houses around an imposing medieval castle. The Morvan, a protected area that is managed as a "regional park". At Arnay-sous-Vitteaux is to find Parc de l'Auxois; a zoo, amusement park and swimming pool in one. Vezelay, a picturesque town known primarily as a place of pilgrimage (on the route to Santiago de Compostela) with the abbey church Basilique Ste. Madeleine (World Heritage UNESCO).
