Casa Oliveira - Villajoyosa/Orxeta

Casa Oliveira: a rustic village house of 120 m2, renovated in August 2022, in the center of Orxeta, a picturesque village with about 800 inhabitants at the foot of the Sierra de Orxeta, near the reservoir Embalse del Amadorio.
Within 10-15 minutes by car you are from the absolute tranquility in bustling Villajoyosa and Benidorm, and you can enjoy the golden beaches of the Costa Blanca. The accommodation is furnished with an eye for detail and has original features such as old wooden ceiling beams, trough vaults and authentic Spanish floor and wall tiles that make the house a cozy 'home'. On the ground floor you immediately enter a spacious and cozy kitchen with fully equipped kitchen and wood stove. Behind the kitchen an office and bathroom. On the first floor two double bedrooms, one of which has a small patio terrace. Here you will also find a second bathroom with bath / sink / toilet, spacious landing and stairs to the living room. The latter is very attractively located under the rafter and is equipped with a pellet stove so that it is also pleasant to stay in the colder months. At both the front and rear of the living room is a lovely terrace from where you have a beautiful view of the mountains. You can sit wonderfully private on both terraces, without being overlooked by local residents. The interior of our Casa is Spanish with a touch of Ibiza. The kitchen, bedrooms and living room have ceiling fans that provide cooling in the hot summer months.

Hola, we are Paulo and Mark Oliveira. Spring 2022 started our search for a (holiday) home on the Costa Blanca. A place where we can retreat every now and then from the Netherlands, where we run an interior design office, to escape the hectic pace of the day. For those moments when we do not use our house ourselves, we are happy to rent it out to other people who also want to enjoy Orxeta and the surrounding area, such as Villajoyosa, Finestrat, Altea, etc.

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

Orcheta (or: Orxeta) located in the province of Alicante is a relatively unknown gem on the Costa Blanca, between the mountains with direct connections to the rugged interior. The mountains provide a favorable climate and protect the village like broad loving arms. The valley around the village turns cheerful orange every year because of the fruit trees full of oranges and ripe nisperos: a fresh, sour, oval-shaped fruit. It is not only the fruits that give color to the village, the picturesque traditional houses are often painted in warm Mediterranean colours: blue, green, yellow and red. The Orxetans are proud of their village, and brightened up the streets with pots of profusely flowering plants such as bright purple bougainvillea's, orange strelitzia's and soft blue men's fidelity. On the way to the bakery or village shop where the basic provisions are available, everyone is greeted with a 'bon dia' by the residents who are tidy by nature: not only in terms of friendliness but also in terms of cleanliness. Sidewalks are diligently swept and mopped, and don't be surprised to see the municipal road sweeper driving through the streets one morning and be pleasantly surprised by a wonderful scent added to the sweeping water! If you take an evening walk in the evening, you will also be surprised: white jasmine and the leaves/blossom of the orange trees fill the streets with a touch of summer. To enjoy! The residents often sit in front of their houses to talk about the day. While walking you will pass the authentic washing place where the ladies used to do their weekly laundry, and has now been restored to its former glory. Strolling you end up on the village square with the old church which, as soon as it gets dark, is beautifully and attractively lit. Here you should take a seat on the terrace at the town hall and quietly enjoy the busy gesticulating Spaniards who may be preparing their village festival that will be organized in September. The summers are hot: a place to cool off is welcome. Casa Oliveira does not have a private swimming pool, but a refreshing dip is not far away: the public municipal swimming pool is located on the edge of the village and is accessible in the summer months for a fee. Our casa is easily accessible by car: luggage and shopping can be unloaded in front of the door. Parking is possible on the edge of the village in a spacious free parking lot, just a 3-minute walk to the house. Orxeta is located approximately 35 minutes by car from Alicante airport and only 6 kilometers from the Orxeta exit on the AP-7 motorway. During these last kilometers you will drive through a beautiful rolling mountainous landscape and you will pass the Embalse del Amadorio reservoir, which immediately evokes the holiday feeling. Away from the hustle and bustle of tourism and yet everything is close by. Both along the coast of the Costa Blanca and a few kilometers inland you will find gems such as: Villajoyosa, Finestrat, Altea, Polop, Guadalest, Teulada, Moraira, Denia and Xaló (Jalón). There, normal life has slowly continued without being influenced too much by tourism. If you don't want to spend a day on the beach, but want to experience the authentic Spain, this region has plenty to offer. Ideal about Casa Oliveira is its central location near the Autopista del Mediterráneo (AP-7), which means that large(r) cities such as Valencia, Alicante and Murcia are also quickly and easily accessible. Ideal for a day trip for shopping, museum visits, etc. The Costa Blanca evokes visions of sun, sea, palm trees and golden beaches. Two of the best beaches on the Costa Blanca are the 4 km long Playa de Levante and Playa de Poniente in Benidorm. For example, they have a Blue Flag, making it safe for children to play. Thanks to the sheltered mountains around Benidorm, you will not be bothered by a possible cold wind. Active people can let loose to their heart's content; sailing, jet skiing and paragliding are only a small part of the (water) sports on offer. Would you like to choose from even more beaches or do you simply want to hop from beach to beach on the Costa Blanca? Between the popular Benidorm and the small-scale town of Altea you will find Albir, a relatively unknown holiday resort. Yet this coastal town is becoming more popular by the day and that is partly due to Playa del Albir. Families love to come here because of the shallow water! But be sure to also take a look at the beach of Villajoyosa, located directly on the boulevard of this beautiful town with its unique colorful facades and underground parking garage. You are there within a maximum of 15 minutes from Casa Oliveira. There are plenty of places to visit around Orxeta: a region where 20 hidden gems await you. Check out the best places to visit in the region: https://www.komoot.nl/guide/1643773/de-mooiste-attracties-rond
One of the pearls you will find here is Altea. Whether this town is typically Spanish or has managed to create an authentic atmosphere through Greek characteristics, that is the question. The picturesque town is certainly special. White houses, balconies decorated with flowers, narrow streets with uneven tiles and a view that makes you say ù. Altea is highly recommended to visit. You will find all kinds of local boutiques and galleries here. Looking for more well-known brands or larger stores? There is also a shopping street in Altea. Don't forget one thing during your visit to this cute town: enjoying the view. There are plenty of places to pause and look at the panoramic views.
In the interior of the Costa Blanca, the old village of Guadalest is well hidden in the mountains. The unique thing about Guadalest is that the village is beautifully integrated into the rocks. Guadalest is about half an hour to 45 minutes drive from seaside resorts such as Calpe, Moraira, Altea and Benidorm. The almost thousand year old village is situated entirely around the castle. The castle, simply called El Castell de Guadalest, has been an important point of defense for the Moors against the Spaniards for many years. Because Guadalest could only be reached through a rock-cut entrance and the castle had towers that rose above the rocks like a crow's nest, it was easy to defend. From the beginning of the seventeenth century, the Spaniards held sway in Guadalest. Over the centuries, the village has expanded beyond the natural boundary defined by the rocks. However, most of the sights are still within the old core of Guadalest. In addition to the castle, the attractive market square, the town hall and the baroque church are worth mentioning. Museum lovers can visit two museums. Those who visit Guadalest also get a beautiful view of the reservoir built in the last century, which has been supplying drinking water to a large part of the province of Alicante for many years. Those who want to visit Guadalest will have to take into account that there are quite a few height differences to overcome.
The seaside resort of Finestrat is located in the southern part of the Costa Blanca, about 40 minutes drive from Alicante airport and about 7 km from Orxeta. Although the historic center with its winding streets is inland, Finestrat has about 300 meters of coastline, from Punta del Tossal to the mouth of the Barranco de la Cachola, in which is the so-called Cala de Finestrat. With its wonderful climate (with an average temperature of 20ºC and more than 300 sunny days a year), Finestrat is the ideal place to enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere. This beach in Cala de Finestrat borders the municipalities of Villajoyosa to the southwest and Benidorm to the northeast. The municipal area is home to the mythical mountain of Puig Campana, whose peak reaches 1410 meters above sea level.
Behind the beaches, the interior is home to a beautiful green landscape full of unspoilt nature, fresh air and wonderfully clear water to cool off in… and it's less than an hour from Orxeta! The Algar falls, that's the secret we reveal to you here. The Algar River flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Altea. On its way there, the river passes the lovely town of Callosa d'en Sarria, about 15km from Benidorm and about the same distance from Altea. It is there that the Algar River thunders down in great waterfalls, cascading down rocks that form beautiful natural pools. Under the name 'Les Fonts de l`Algar', this whole area is a nature reserve and therefore protected. Callosa is also an agricultural area where loquat or nispera, the local yellow or orange fruits, are also grown. Besides the waterfalls, there is more to see in the nature reserve. Enjoy the lush Mediterranean fauna and flora. There is an arboretum or tree garden, open to visitors. Add to that the constant murmur of the waterfalls, which is particularly relaxing…
This spectacular hiking trail consists of a 212 meter long wooden path that is attached to the rock wall in the gorge near the reservoir of Relleu, the Pantano de Relleu. The walking path or walk itself has been named 'Pasarela de la Presa de Relleu' and was created in January 2022. It is an adrenaline rush for many hikers to walk high above the gorge of the Amadorio River on a wooden frame. At the end of the 212 meter long wooden walkway is a 'mirador' or viewpoint that consists of a glass bottom that is fixed at a height of 40 meters above the Amadorio river.
A large shopping center with shops for young and old with chains such as: Zara, Casa, Mango, Pimkie, United colors of Benneton, Estrada, C&A, Pull and Bear, Bershka, but also various supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi and Carrefour and a cinema. And of course, as usually in Spain: Free parking in the parking garage under the shopping center.
