Since 2004 we have a home on the Costa Blanca that we rent out in July and August. This property, we call it "Casa Alicante", we bought after our working life. We have found a beautiful location for this in the Hondón Valley. A beautiful house with a swimming pool and a beautifully landscaped garden with palm trees, oleanders, roses, cacti etc .. On a plot of 476 m2 we had a typical Spanish house built of 115 m2 with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

The size of the municipality of Hondón de las Nieves is a total of 68.9 square kilometers. The total number of inhabitants is 1800, not including the inhabitants of the Montañosa urbanization. Hondón de las Nieves and also the Montañosa urbanization are protected as it were by the beautiful mountains of the "Sierra de Crevillente" which is 837 meters high. There are vineyards, almond trees, olive trees and countless other beautiful trees, plants, flowers and herbs everywhere. The flora and fauna of the mountains is simply overwhelming. A walking or car trip through the mountains is definitely recommended. In the neighborhood of Hondón de las Nieves are beautiful places of natural beauty such as El Barranco del Infierno, Los Evangelistas, El Alto Coronel and beautiful caves such as the caves of El Sol and the caves of El Rollo in La Solana. This is the place where many Spaniards go with the whole family on Sundays to walk, relax and enjoy a delicious home-cooked barbecue meal. In Hondón de las Nieves are many beautiful old buildings such as the Ayuntamiento (the town hall) and la Iglesia Parroquial (the parish of the Catholic Church) which was built in 1746. A walk through the streets of Hondón de las Nieves gives one after it another beautiful building.

Wednesday: in Guardamar and Hondón da las Nieves, among others. Thursday: in Alicante, Rojales and Aspe, among others. Friday: in Torrevieja and Elche, among others. Saturday: in Elche, Alicante, Santa Pola, Almoradi and Hondón de las Nieves, among others. Sundays: in Alquenja, Los Montesinos, La Madura (near Crevillente) and Guadamar (Flea, art and antique markets) Daily: Alicante on Paseo Gadeo (from 4 pm to 8 pm. Sundays: Alicante (from 10 am to 3 pm)
Spain has a range of local festivities outside of public holidays. Every place has its own specific festivities. A huge amount of advertising is being made for these festivities. It is good to know where and when these festivities are held in connection with store closures, extra crowds, etc. Below is a small list of festivities in the vicinity of the Montañosa urbanization. January 5, the Holy Epiphany ride on horseback, in a equestrian procession, in Spanish it is "CABALGATAS", through the cities. In February, on the last Friday before Lent, the carnival processions begin, in Spanish it is "CARNESTOLTES". Especially special in Alicante. In March / April on Palm Sunday there is a beautiful procession in Elche with a lot of plaiting of palm leaves. (It is not for nothing that Elche has around 300,000 palm trees.) On White Thursday there are processions in Elche and Alicante. From 21 to 24 April in Alcoy the famous Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos. Also in various other villages and towns this party is held on different dates during the summer months. May trees are decorated in Alicante on May 1. On May 15 in Hondón de las Nieves the Fiestas are the San Isidoro Labrador, in honor of the patron saint of the farmers. In June the summer night fires are lit on the 24th, which are huge wood and paper structures, especially in Alicante. In July there are ship trials in honor of the patron saint of fishermen, including in Santa Pola and Torrevieja. Elche celebrates its Fiesta Mayor in the first two weeks of August. The closing with Misteri d'Elx is on 15 August (Maria Ascension).
1. Beautiful sandy beaches half an hour away ... The long sandy beaches and cozy Mediterranean bays are justifiably famous throughout Europe. In about half an hour you are in Santa Pola or Guardamar to be able to enjoy the sun for more than 300 days a year ... 2. Located half an hour's drive from the airport ... Alicante airport (Elche) ) is located about 35 km from Hondón de las Nieves with excellent connections to the Netherlands and Belgium. 3. View over the beautiful old mountains ... Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe, after Switzerland. In Switzerland you can not lie by the sea with a cocktail but from the Hondon valley you can ski on the slopes of the Sierra Navada after a few hours of driving ... 4. Beautiful nature walks ... Beautiful nature walks such as a walk through the Rio Chicamo or along the Pantano de Elche reservoir. Mountain walks through the Crevillente mountains, something for everyone ... 5. Nice restaurants ... In the Hondon valley you can find numerous nice restaurants where you can even get a full meal for 10 euros, coffee and wine included. 6. The festivals are legendary ... The Spanish villages in the Hondon Valley all have their specific festivals, correfrocs, medieval markets, festivals of San Isidro, Moors and Christians every weekend there is something going on somewhere and all festivals can be celebrated with the delicious Vinalope wines ... 7. Producer of the best wine in the world ... The wineries of the Vinalopo region make some of the best wines in the world, including those for "Best Wine of 2013" according to the Wine Spectator. Since most of these wines are consumed in the region itself, the wines are still affordable ... 8. Beautiful historic towns in the immediate vicinity ... Alicante with its beautiful marina, Elche with its palm gardens, Orihuela with its historic downtown, Novelda with its Modernista museo ... there is so much to experience within a radius of 30 km ... 9. Its beautiful castles ... In this region you can still visit a number of castles from the time of the Spanish kings and the Moors, Villena with its gold treasure, Sax, Novelda, Petrer, Elda ... 10. Mediterranean lifestyle, what more do you want? Although many stereotypes (daily siesta, manana ...) are more myth than reality, the culture of long family meals, Sunday outings, summery BBQ's, lazing on the beach, the weekly markets, in the Hondon Valley it is nice to stay ...
