Malpertuus dates from 1870 (Zeeuws heritage) and has been expanded and modernized over the years without violating the original character.
So yes the floors creak and the doors are a bit lower as people were a lot smaller in 1870 than they are now.
The living room has been given a new oak parquet floor. A large new dormer window has been installed above with double glazing!.
The house is surrounded by a large garden with plenty of sun and shade spots.
The garden is currently being transformed into an ecologically friendly biotope. Of course it will take a while before it is fully grown.
The garden has several seating areas so you can relax and enjoy the tranquility.
And yes, the cottage is old, very old and very charming and sweet!
Layout: hall, toilet, modern spacious kitchen with gas hob, oven, fridge and all necessary kitchen utensils and a dining table.
Here is also access to the (new) bathroom with walk-in shower and sink, and the stairs to the top.
Spacious, bright living room with sitting area with 2 comfortable sofas and a gas heater, TV.
On the -renovated - first floor are the two bedrooms: one with 2 single beds (13m2), washbasin and one with a double bed (12m2). There is also a single bed on the landing. All beds have new mattresses (Feb.22)
The house has a fixed storage room with a washing machine.
There is room for several cars in the driveway.
Please note: it is an old house, and we find that very charming, but it also has low doors (in 1870 people were a lot smaller) and the staircase is narrow and creaky ..... it has been modernized, but with the preservation of its charming character.
The cottage is located in the hamlet of "Pont Avance", near the border with Belgium.
The beautiful, wide beach of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is 15 kilometers from Malpertuus.
This beach has been voted the cleanest beach in the Netherlands several times.
It is also wonderful to get a breath of fresh air in the before and after season.
In the immediate vicinity of the cottage you can enjoy walking and cycling over the dikes and visit the nature reserve 't Zwin in Cadzand, which is definitely worth it. At 10 km away, in Biervliet is the beautiful nature and hiking area the Brackman.
In the historic towns such as Sluis, Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp and Terneuzen you can enjoy shopping and soaking up some culture, so definitely worth a visit.
A nice day trip is to cross the ferry from Breskens to Vlissingen and Middelburg
So something for everyone.
Pets allowed: max 1 dog.
But also make sure that the four-legged friend has a nice holiday and please bring your own basket.
