Waking up in the forest, with birds chirping and further silence. In 2026, we renovated Cabin Holt from top to bottom and put in everything we like when traveling. The result: here you are completely unburdened.
The cottage
Inside, a warm 70s interior awaits with wood, colorful walls and design classics. From the couch you look through the large windows into the green garden, even in winter, while the wood stove crackles. In the kitchen, you can cook the stars from the sky: an induction plate with boost, dishwasher, oven with airfryer function and a tap with five types of water, from boiling to sparkling. A Moccamaster is ready for the coffee lovers, with coffee, tea and herbs in the cupboard. Via the wireless speakers from Audio Pro you can easily play your favorite record, per room or everywhere at the same time, and there is a separate speaker for outside. And there is always wine ready: if it gets cozier than planned, feel free to open a bottle. All we ask is that you supplement what you use, for the guests after you.
Sleeping
There are two bedrooms. The forest house has a double bed (180x200) with a loft with two separate mattresses (80x200) above it, ideal for children or guests. The Boskamer is a self-contained studio with double bed (160x200), private bathroom, coffee corner with capsule machine and a beamer for cinema in bed. And you are woken up by nibbling squirrels in front of the window.
The terrain
The garden is full of places that you only find when you start walking around: a yoga platform with mats and meditation cushions, a hammock for a book and a food forest where you can pick what is ripe, from wild strawberries in spring to figs and hazelnuts in autumn. Outdoor cooking is the real deal here: a brick outdoor kitchen with concrete worktop, built-in barbecue and a fireplace where you can bake pizzas on the hot stones. Then sweat it out in the six-person Finnish sauna, a real one, so you can pour it in. And with four bicycles in front of the door, you can pedal up the hills in no time.
The area
Cabin Holt is located at the foot of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. From the garden you can walk or cycle straight into the heath and forests, with a chance of seeing deer and special birds. In the village you will find our favorites: Echte Bakker Nijkamp (which sells homemade ice cream in season), Butcher Demmer and as icing on the cake the cheese shop Kloas in 't Hof, with cheese from their own farm. Craving something quick? Snack bar 't Klavertje bakes a delicious fries, or stay at Cabin Holt and let Rockin' Burgers deliver the best smash burgers in the area. By bike, Natuurmuseum Holterberg, Observatory Hellendoorn and vineyard Hof van Twente are within reach, with plenty of terraces along the way. Are you coming by public transport? Holten station is 2 km away, with bicycle rental next to it. You drive between the trees to the door and experience plenty of privacy. Everything close by, although there is a good chance that you will not want to leave the site.
Updates
2026: the cottage completely renovated and redecorated, with a new six-person Finnish sauna, the outdoor kitchen with pizza fireplace, the Boskamer as a second bedroom with private bathroom and a newly planted food forest.
Good to know
- Up to 6 people, two bedrooms and a loft, two bathrooms
- Arrival from 14.00 hrs, departure no later than 11.00 hrs, deviations are possible in consultation
- You can rent bed or bath linen for 15 euros per person per stay, or bring your own linen
- Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, coffee, tea and a basic supply are ready
- Wi-Fi of about 100 Mbit/s, great for streaming or a day of work
- Starting stock of firewood for stove and sauna is ready
- Parking in your own driveway, space for several cars
- Unfortunately, pets are not allowed here, and it is quiet between 22:00 and 08:00
- We take care of the final cleaning, leaving it tidy is enough
