Our village and the area. La livinière is an old village with 600 inhabitants and is located in the famous and beautiful wine region of Languedoc, with the cities of Montpelliers, Carcassonne and Narbonne, among others. Many of our fellow residents live from wine-growing. La Livinière has a grocer, a bakery, a restaurant, a doctor and a pharmacy and of course several châteaux, where you can taste delicious and often award-winning wines. Olonzac is a larger village a few minutes away, for your visit to restaurants, larger shops or pleasant terraces. We have been living, renting and building in La Livinière for 25 years. The rural La Livinière is located at the foot of the Montagne Noir. An area with a lot of natural beauty, where you can walk for hours, have a picnic or swim in the crystal clear streams and rivers that have made their way through imposing rock faces. The age-old picturesque town of Minerve (the name giver of the Minervois wine region) is a must to visit. On the other side of La Livinière a wide valley stretches through which the famous Canal du Midi, dug by order of Napoleon, runs with its many locks. You can rent a boat and maneuver through the locks. In Beziers, due to the enormous height difference, there are nine locks in a row; an ingenious waterwork, nice to view! Large cities such as Carcassonne, Beziers and Narbonne are within half an hour's drive. These ancient cities are more than worth your visit. Castles, parks, shops, (flea) markets and restaurants. You can enjoy a glass of wine in the sun while immersing yourself in the divine French life. Or, a little more actively, hit a ball on the golf courses. Narbonne is located on the coast, has a boulevard with terraces, restaurants and a wide, child-friendly beach. Sun beds, umbrellas and pedal boats are rented. The Pyrenees are reachable within 2 hours' drive for trips, where you can use several ski areas and accommodations in the winter. On the coast, south of Perpignan, against the rocks of the Pyrenees, there are authentic harbor towns such as Collioure and Port-Vendres. This rocky coast offers wonderful snorkeling and diving opportunities. La Livinière is about 1200 kilometers from the Netherlands towards Narbonne, where you take exit 37 on the A9 to be in our village within half an hour. From Amsterdam you can fly directly to Toulouse. Via the A61 it is still more than an hour away. Direct and cheap flights go to Carcassonne from Brussels.
