Welcome to La Croix des Forges, a carefully renovated holiday home in the heart of the Périgord Noir. This region is slowly revealing its wealth: a market here, a castle there, a restaurant that you stumble upon by chance and where you immediately make a second reservation for the end of the week. The house is set on a spacious, fully fenced plot of 7,800 m² with stunning views over the valley, and has an official French classification of 3 stars.
Inside, the house combines authentic details, such as wooden beams and a wood-burning stove in the living room, with modern comfort. All bedrooms have air conditioning and the kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, Nespresso and kettle. There is deliberately no television. This is a house for long dinners, a game, a book and time together.
The main house has three bedrooms. Upstairs there are two rooms that are connected to each other: you walk through the room with two twin beds to get to the attractive room with wooden beams and a double bed. Many families like that, because parents and children sleep close to each other. If you are traveling with a group of friends, it is useful to know this in advance.
Outside there is a private swimming pool (liner, deepest point approx. 3 m) with views over the valley. Many guests start their day here with an early swim, while the fog still hangs over the valley. There is also a covered porch, a gas barbecue, fruit trees and a herb corner, a fully renovated maison d'amis and a charging point for electric cars.
Dogs are welcome, up to 3 pieces and without surcharge. They are allowed anywhere in the house (except on the bed and sofa), the garden is fully fenced and the Dordogne river is a few minutes' drive away for a refreshing swim. Only the swimming pool itself is off-limits.
The area: walk from the house to the Gourmandise de Luco bakery for fresh bread. Saint-Cyprien is a six-minute drive away and has a daily Carrefour and a lively market on Sunday mornings. Sarlat, twenty minutes away, has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and an attractive medieval town centre. In July and August, there are marchés gourmands in the area almost every evening. Castles such as Beynac and Castelnaud are nearby and are both dog-friendly, and at Canoë-Détente (4 minutes' drive) you can take the dog out into the Dordogne. Golf (three courses nearby), hiking and dining at local restaurants, many of which are dog-friendly, are also part of a stay here.
