Tourist information


Kötschach-Mauthen is located in the southwest of Carinthia, on the border with Italy. It is your ideal destination for both sun and snow holidays. Whether you like active sports vacations or just keep your calm and beautiful scenery to enjoy, it's all in Kötschach-Mauthen.

Day trips

Mauthener Klam
5 minutes by car. In Mauthen. Parking at the waldbad and then follow the pedestrian signs.
Surprisingly beautiful clammy.

Garnitzen clammy
About 30 minutes by car. Direction Hermagor Follow signs Garnitzen.
Superb clammy.
Highly recommended. Route consists of three sections. After each section, there is the possibility to walk back to the starting point.

Ragaschlucht and Möltaler gletzer.
In the Mölltal. Direction Lienz and Lienz right direction Möltal.
Combining both gorgeous and fun. Especially in clear weather.

Grossglockner
This is the highest mountain in Austria (3798m)
Here you can see the glacier. The route to it, the Hochalpen Strasse, is beautiful. Across the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Meadow and Burger Nölblinger Waterfalls.
Fun to do a while on the bike.
From the chalet on the bike path along the Gail direction Hermagor.
Suspension bridge crossing direction Weidenburg. Follow signs Wasserfal.
Or further pursue the road to the next village (Nölbling) here and follow the signs Waterfalls. You can then via Würmlach and Mauthen weather cycle back.

Lesachtal
The Lesachtal by the German ADAC named the most authentic piece of Austria. It is beautiful here.
Economically the valley aimed at Kötschach. This valley starts in Kötschach in Billa, turn right here and continue through to Sillian. You stand by Maria Luggau, a famous pilgrimage town. Obertilliach you up with the elevator. This is a very nice winter ski area. In every village start hiking in the mountains. You can go back through Italy or Lienz.

Winter sports


General:
Carinthia is less known in Dutch when it comes to winter sports. Probably because it slightly further away as all the famous ski areas on the north side of the Alps.

There is for us something in return;
- There is a friendly atmosphere.
- In general it is a lot quieter on the slopes and at the apres-ski. - The prices are much lower
- The climate is a lot better (many more hours of sunshine, even in winter).

Ski Hire
Kötschach is a sporting goods (Sport Putz 2000) where you can rent skis. Here you will immediately notice that there's a lot quieter things work here. (No long queues)
Through internet you can book in advance at special prices materials.

Ski School
People with children get special Kotschach to take skiing lessons here. The lessons are excellent, small classes, organized and a lot cheaper.

Nassfeld ski area

Nassfeld
Nassfeld you can go skiing. It is 110 km slopes the largest ski area in Carinthia. There are both blue, red and a few black runs.
A beautiful panorama Talabfart (partially evening illuminated) and lots of cozy ski huts.
Also there is plenty of snowboarding (the world championships were held here in 2002) and there is a fun park for the more advanced. For the children is everything perfectly organized.
From the People's Bank at the church in Kötschach the ski bus to Nassfeld. (3 minutes walk from the chalet) By car it is about 25 minutes.

Ski Zetterfeld

Ski Zetterfeld is near Lienz. Approximately 30 minutes by auto.Lekker quiet and beautiful trails and vistas. Also very cozy huts where you can eat or drink tasty dishes. Moreover, it is this slope on the south slope and therefore you can also sit in the sun.
The disadvantage is that you have to go there by car because no ski bus ride from Kotschach to Lienz.

Skiing in the village

Kotschach-Mauthen has a small quiet ski area. With two beautiful slopes (blue, red and 3km 1,5km) and a nice practice area. Very nice for beginners.
Lift Passes and discussing lessons can bottom of the lift. Cash payment, there is no payment by debit card here possible.

Along the descent to Laas (red) you pass a cozy (gemutliche) ski lodge "ödenhûtte". Definitely recommended !!
Furthermore, there is downstairs in the elevator limited ability to apres-ski.

Further skiing

Besides skiing, there are also plenty of other winter sports.

Skating on the Weissensee. (Known from the eleven cities)

Cross-country skiing.
Are plotted in the village several cross-country trails. Especially along the Gail is much country skiing. The Gail is prepared more than 200 km of trails.

Snowshoeing.
At Sport 2000 you can rent special snowshoes so you can make easy walks through the snow.

The village is also a skating rink and regular competitions and "Eisklettern" (climbing against ice walls) organized.

Tobogganing.
On the Gailberg (5 to 10 minutes by car) is an illuminated toboggan run. Toboggan standing in the shed at the chalet.
