We are Annie and Jan Scholtens Since our early retirement, we have looked, together with our friends Klaske and Jan Koerts, where we wanted to spend our free time and so we came across the Sunnehuset in March 2009 after an extensive search through Värmland. We ourselves regularly go to Värmland, out of season, which is why the Sunnehuset have been pleasantly and comfortably furnished in recent years. For ourselves but certainly also for you.

Additional information

We are Annie and Jan Scholtens. Since we went with early retirement, together with our friends Klaske and Jan Koerts, we looked at where we wanted to spend our free time and so in the spring of 2009 we came across two beautiful homes (Sunnehuset in Munkfors and Mellanhuset in Nykroppa) after an extensive quest through Värmland. However, we sold the house in Nykroppa again in 2016.We regularly go to Munkfors out of season and have therefore furnished the Sunnehuset pleasantly and comfortably in recent years. For ourselves but also for our guests. The times we have been there we have enjoyed the beautiful surroundings with its forests and many lakes. Every time we are impressed by this vastness and the peace that you find everywhere. In the village, in the area, but also when you are going on a car trip, we have noticed that our neighbors in Munkfors are pleasant and very helpful people, like most Swedes we have already met. Very friendly and they all speak excellent English. At the end of 2019, Klaske and Jan have decided to end their period in Munkfors and Annie and I will now continue together. In the coming years we will continue to invest in the Sunnehuset during our stays in Munkfors, in addition to enjoying the Swedish country. If you would also like to stay at the Sunnehuset, we would like to welcome you and hope that you will enjoy as much as we enjoy every stay at the Sunnehuset in Munkfors.

By car to Munkfors.
You can travel via Germany and Denmark by ferry from Puttgarden to Rødbyhavn (40 minutes) and Helsingor - Helsingborg (25 minutes). You can also choose to go by car completely over land via Copenhagen and Odense and take the two toll bridges. The toll bridges together are slightly cheaper than the boats, but the distance to Karlstad is significantly longer.
We recommend to take the route via Puttgarden. So you can take your breaks during sailing and stretch your legs. Also you can eat and drink something during the crossing.
The departure of the boats is every half hour so no reservation is necessary. You do well to buy in Puttgarden a combi-ticket for both boats as well as for the return trip. It is not cheaper than individual tickets but you can easily check in for the following boats.
From Helsingborg it is about a 7 hours drive to Munkfors.
After Gothenburg, direction Oslo. Just before Uddevalla you take the highway 44 to the E45 and drive through Vanerborg and Karlstad to Munkfors.
For prices and timetable of the ferries from Scandlines please see their website.
Another route you can take is the route via Frederikshavn.
The ferry takes about 4 hours to bring you to Gothenburg. It is certainly desirable in the summertime to make a booking.
From Göteborg it is still about a 5 hours drive to Munkfors including breaks.
See the site from Stena Line for the timelable and prices of the Stena Line.
If you want to travel very relaxed, the crossing Travemünde - Trelleborg is definitely recommended.
From Nieuweschans it is about a 3 hours drive to the boat in Tavemünde. For example, take the boat from 10 p.m. You can spend the night in one of the cabins of the ferry, have breakfast the next morning and you are good prepared to continue your journey. The crossing by boat takes approximately 10 hours.
From Trelleborg is it still about a 9 hours drive to Munkfors including breaks.
For prices and booking please see the website of the TT-line.

By plane.
With Ryanair you fly comfortable and very economical to Sweden.
Ryanair flies from different places in England to Stockholm, Gothenburg or Oslo.
Munkfors is approximately 5 hours drive from the airports of Stockholm or Gothenburg and approximately 4 hours from Oslo.
Depending of the day of your flight you have to pay for a ticket about 50 euros per person (including tax) for a return Manchester - Stockholm. Cabinluggage (up to 10 kg. and no larger than 20x40x50 cm.)is even free of charge. For a trunk up to 15 kg. you have to pay extra.
Please visit the Ryanair site andyou can easily book online for one of these flights.
You can also use this website to rent a car at the airport of your arrival.
Prejudice ...? ...? ...?:
One of the most persistent prejudices about Sweden is that it is always cold (and according to many wet) and that the days are so short!
However, this is unjustified, because Sweden has many wonderful summers with pleasant temperatures and in the winter is often cold, but not as bleak in the Netherlands.
And what concerns the short days has been partly right because in the winter months November, December, January and February are the days shorter. At least it is rather dark. The rise of the sun hardly differs with that of the Netherlands.
For the other months of the day length is comparable to that of the Netherlands and in summer it is even considerably longer light. And that's usually the time that the Dutch spend their holidays in Sweden.

Country Climate.
In almost all of Sweden has a continental climate, which in general is dry and (relatively) warm summers and cold winters. In summer, temperatures between 23 and 27 degrees no exception. Often these temperatures than associated with bright blue skies and brilliant sunshine.

The winters in Sweden
The winters in Sweden can, as is well known, pretty severe. In northern Sweden, maximum temperatures of -30 º C are not uncommon (the average January temperature in Kiruna is about -16 º C). In the south the temperatures are considerably higher (average temperature in January in Malmo is around freezing). A big difference with cold weather in the Netherlands is the humidity. In Sweden, the air is much drier with cold much less cold to the touch. In addition, in Sweden there is often less wind than in Netherlands, making the cold less uncomfortable.

But ... As everyone really knows, loves the weather does not always follow the rules. Like the Netherlands, Sweden has good summers and bad summers, nice winters and poor winters ... A few weeks of summer can completely distant genes, but may also proceed without a drop of rain. And a winter visit to Sweden is also disappointing turn out by the lack of snow or ice ... or result in beautiful winter landscapes. But if the weather during your stay unexpectedly bad, remember that even in Sweden, "Efter regn sol doom" or "After rain comes sunshine."
