We are Bert and Carmelita and we live near the city of Groningen. Our Sunny Place we bought in 2008 because we wanted to be able once in a while to spend a vacation in Surinam under our own roof. When we are not there, we offer other people the opportunity to spend a few weeks there in a comfortable and luxurious way.

Left: rolling gate, driveway and double garage. Centre: small entry gate plus front terrace, entrance part and front doors. Right: kitchen with tinted mirror glass.

The high garden wall provides privacy and the tinted mirror glass prevents looking in. The tiled path runs along the kitchen and the third bedroom to the rear.

Left, under the roofside, are the lines for drying laundry (moreover in the garage is a large drying rack). A variety of plants and shrubs can be enjoyed.

Along the path to the front is an outside tap and a washbasin.

In the middle is the double front door.

Here you can have a cosy breakfast or read your newly purchased newspaper, while the birds (e.g. the "grietjebie") are whistling.... On this (lockable) terrace you will also find a washbasin.

Except for a double bed (2 meters long) with bedside tables you will find a large hanging / cupboard with shelves, a clothes rack to ventilate your wet clothes and a luxurious airco with remote control. From the bedroom you go to the fine bathroom with private toilet or to the large walk-in closet. Also there is a control panel for the alarm system present. From the living room you go to the third bedroom, via a hallway. There you find 3 doors, leading to the bedroom, the bathroom and the second toilet. The second bedroom is located next to the master bedroom. All beds are 2 meters long. The bedrooms have airco with remote control. More pictures can be found under "Photo Album".

Information folder: for you, as users of Villa Zonnehof, there is a brochure containing descriptions of all important issues in and around the house, e.g. how the alarm is operated and how to use the water pressure system (hydrofoor).
USER INSTRUCTIONS: all over the house you will find short instructions pinned to the wall (A4 format), e.g. near the washing machine and the airco units. These instructions learn you how to use a device best. Ze are bi-lingual, in Dutch on one side and in English on the reverse side.
INVENTORY LIST: the complete inventory list is located in the Information folder. It gives an overview of everything that is in the house.

Private transport by (rented) car. Taxi: they pick you up at the house (not expensive). City transport: e.g. the TamKas line takes you from the Kasabaholoweg downtown and back.

SUPERMARKET: at the Kasabaholoweg you will find (10 min. walk) several supermarkets serving your daily food and newspaper needs. MALL: at short distance there is the luxurious Hermitage Mall. DOWNTOWN: in the city center there are department stores, shops, casino's and restaurants.

The old town, with its old wooden churches and houses in colonial style and the fortress Zeelandia, is on Unesco's list of world heritage. On the Waterfront, nearby the famous hotel Torarica, you will find plenty ways of enjoying yourself.
Markets: the big Central Market Hall is on the Suriname River and near the Kwattaweg there is a Sunday market.

The coastal plain, surrounding Paramaribo, transforms into the savannah and then gradually into the tropical rainforest that is part of the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. You can make 1-day trips (e.g. a boat trip on the river or a journey by car or van to beautiful Brownsberg Mountain) or multi-day trips by plane deeper into the forest. Find out in advance if the vaccinations or anti-malaria treatment is needed. Also you might drive to Nieuw Nickerie or Albina.
