Santa Pola is located near the metropolis of Alicante, is less known to tourists than the other major cities on the Costa Blanca, but has exactly the same to offer. The
town has some great beaches, a medieval castle in the center, and one of the best boulevards on the Costa Blanca.
But there is also a lot to do outside of Santa Pola. Large cities such as Benidorm, Elche, Alicante, Torrevieja and Villajoyosa are a stone's throw away. All this ensures that you will never be bored
during your stay in this city. So read on and find out what else is hiding in Santa Pola.
Castillo Fortaleza de Santa Pola
In the middle of Santa Pola is the Castillo Fortaleza de Santa Pola. This castle was built in 1554 as part of a plan to defend the coast of the Kingdom of Valencia. The castle was built in
renaissance military style and was home to 33 military personnel and their families.
The Castillo Fortaleza
The Castillo Fortaleza has been impenetrable for hundreds of years, but now you just walk in through the front door. Entrance is free and where the soldiers used to live, you will now find several museums.
Natural Park of Las Salinas
West of Santa Pola is the large natural park Parque Natural De Las Salinas. This area is largely under water and is the habitat of wild flamingos. If you're lucky you'll spot one
or else perhaps a great mountain of salt. Salt has been mined in the Parque Natural De Las Salinas for hundreds of years, which has been quite important for the former growth of the city.
Castle of Biar
50 km inland from Santa Pola in the small town of Biar is the great Castle of Biar, a spectacular medieval castle that can be seen throughout the town. The castle is located on top of a hill, what
used to be strategic but nowadays provides a beautiful view, especially at sunset.
Visit Elche
A city that you should not miss during your visit to the Costa Blanca is the large Elche. The city has a gigantic shopping center, a beautiful old city center and a very cozy one
boulevard. In addition, you will find several historical sights and a number of beautiful parks full of palm trees, for which the city is known.
Beaches
Santa Pola has several beautiful and cozy beaches stretched over 10 km of coast.
