Location & area recommendations

Additional information

Imagine swimming in crystal clear azure water, breathing the cleanest air in Spain and taking a nice walk along a beautiful coastline. That's Javea. Jávea has an incredibly beautiful coast and because of its favorable location, a constant Mediterranean climate. It is not for nothing that more and more winter visitors are moving here! Authentic Spanish Jávea is not only a nice place to be for winter visitors. Actually everyone is impressed by the splendor of this place. Jávea consists of three parts; the old town (La Villa) where remnants of piracy and all kinds of dominations of other peoples can still be found, the harbor and the sandy beach at El Arenal. Jávea is perfectly situated between Valencia and Alicante and is surrounded by rocks, mountains and an enormous variety of vegetation. The old town In the old town you will find many remains of the piracy that took place here around the 14th century. In the remains of the fortress you can still see the remains of the cannonballs! In the historic center you can enjoy a snack and a drink in one of the cute cafes. You can also visit an intimate food market that opens its doors around 8:00 am, closes for a siesta around 2:00 pm, after which you are welcome again from 5:00 pm to pick out local products until 9:00 pm. Another nice market that you can find in the historic city center is the weekly one on Plaza de la Constitución. Another thing worth visiting in Jávea is the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum 'Soler Blasco'. There have been many conquests and conquerors in this part of Spain that have left deep traces. Unfortunately there is not much to see here. At that time, the port was not yet very important. Raisins were shipped from Jávea from 1871. This has ensured that the port was developed and increased in size. In the 19th century, the harbor became a fishing port. The harbor was renovated in the mid-19th century. The 'sand plain' - the playas of Javea The 'sand plain of Jávea' refers to the beach. The beach is 20 kilometers long. The seawater of the Mediterranean is almost always here. nice to meet you. Not for swimming in the winter months, but certainly for paddling. It is also possible to practice various water sports in the sea near Jávea, including diving. In the summer you can enjoy a drink with a snack or a night out on the boulevard at Playa del Arenal beach. Playa de la Granadella There are also many beautiful beaches around Jávea. One of the most beautiful is Playa de la Granadella. This is located in a small intimate bay. Festivities In Jávea there are many festive events to attend. The solstice is celebrated on June 23 with a big party (San Juan). There are bull runs, fireworks, paper mache artwork and traditional bonfires. Other traditional holidays include a religious ceremony for the Virgin (La Virgen del Carmen) and a festival called Moros y Christianos (Moors and Christians) which takes place from 12 to 20 July. Culinary CALA BANDIDA Enter Cala Bandida…! This restaurant oozes beach and relaxed. The interior and exterior has a beachy touch and Cala Bandida is the perfect place for a snack and drink. There are delicious dishes on the menu. The appetizer of seasonal fruit, Manchego cheese and tuna is especially recommended! There are also rice dishes (including paella!), various fish and meat dishes on the menu. Nice to know is that live music is played regularly. Keep an eye on the facebook page for this! Location Puerto de Javea (without number) 03730 Javea Website Opening hours Monday to Sunday: 9am-3am
The area around the port of Javea is known as Duanes de la Mar. It is a lively part of Javea with a coming and going of fishing boats. Of course there is also a fish market that is definitely worth a visit! Large thanks to the raisin trade The port has existed since the 15th century, but its heyday is in the 19th century. This is thanks to the thriving port raisin trade that was then going on from Javea. However, at the end of the 19th century this trade stagnated, after which the harbor was transformed into a fishing port. Nowadays there is very little to see of the rich past. Marina and fishing port In addition to the fishing port, there is also a marina in Duanes de la Mar. In the marina you can enjoy water sports such as fishing, diving or boat rental. Modern church in the harbor Around the harbor of Javea is a boulevard with a pebble beach. Nearby are many fishermen's houses, but also the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Loreto. This striking building is a sample of modern architecture that enthusiasts can appreciate. Activity all year round Duanes de la Mar is the busiest spot in Javea all year round. There is always activity, thanks to the fishing boats that come ashore every morning to deliver their fish. A visit to the fish market La Lonja is therefore recommended. Just like in the old town of Javea, the residents of Duanes de la Mar also celebrate a lot, including for the patron saint Señora de Loreto
