Kamperland is an authentic village in Noord-Beveland in Zeeland. Kamperland used to be all about agriculture, but today it is a popular destination for holidays or weekend getaways in Zeeland. The Kamperland area is a paradise for nature lovers. Numerous routes have been set out for walking and cycling through the Zeeland landscape. Enjoy the panoramic views and discover the so-called "inlay": small areas between two dikes. Along the way you’ll pass nice villages such as Kortgene and Oostkapelle, where you can relax on a nice terrace. Most roads and cycle paths lead directly along the beautiful Veerse lake and the Eastern Scheldt National Park. So grab your bike or put on your walking shoes and discover how beautiful Zeeland can be!

Enjoy yourself along, on and under the water

A holiday home in Kamperland is an excellent choice if you like water sports. The village is located right on the Veerse lake, where you can sail and wind surf, even if there is only a little bit of wind. From your holiday home, you can also make numerous trips in the area. You should definitely visit Neeltje Jans. This former work island at the Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier is world famous and attracts tourists from all over the world every year. The Eastern Scheldt itself is one of the most famous locations for diving in the Netherlands. Beware, because the strong current means that it’s only safe for experienced divers to explore the underwater world here. Would you prefer to stay ashore? There is also plenty to see and do in Kamperland itself. Go shopping in the charming ‘Spuistraatje’, for example. Or take a look at the modern marina, which is equipped with many facilities and has 140 berths.

Nice things to know about Kamperland

  • Kamperland used to be called Campen, which is derived from the Latin word campus. That means something like ‘field’ or ‘enclosed land’.
  • The town of Veere on Walcheren island used to be called Campvere: the place from which the ferry left for Campen (now Kamperland). From May to September there is still a ferry between the two towns.
  • Kamperland has its own brewery, Grand Café Emelisse. It is the only brewery in Zeeland that brews all its beers itself.
  • The name Neeltje Jans refers to a boat of the same name that was stranded on the sandbank. ‘Neeltje Jans’ is an old name for the goddess Nehalennia.
