Dartien is our sunny and detached holiday home that we really enjoy. It is located in a wooded area on the holiday park "de Hunzebergen" and was thoroughly renovated in 2014. The spacious living room has lots of daylight and French doors to the terrace. That terrace faces south. The house is completely on the ground floor and the good insulation makes it a good place to stay there even in winter.

Dartien is located high up (> 25m NAP) on the Drentse Hondsrug. The peace and space that is so scarce in the Netherlands is still abundant here. The surroundings of forest, heathland and open countryside alternate and invite you to go outside. Many marked hiking trails lead you through an attractive area. An extensive cycle path network takes you to historic villages and many places of interest. The fact that there are not many disturbances in the sky here is evident from the fact that the heart of Lofar (the largest radio telescope in the world) is a stone's throw away.

There is plenty to do for children at the holiday park, there is plenty of space to play. In the immediate vicinity of the bungalow you will find a mini golf, bowling, tennis and bmx track, bicycle rental and a swimming pool, catering and wellness. You can easily cycle through the forest to the village of Exloo where there is a sheepfold with a nice herd of Drenthe heath sheep. For the little ones, a visit to Kabouterland is an experience, as this has been a special place for gnomes for thousands of years.
The outdoor swimming pool of the village is beautifully situated in the forest. A little further away in Emmen is of course the beautiful Wildlands. In Borger there is a lot to discover about the icons of Drenthe in the Hunebedcentrum.

Are you a culture lover? The Drents and Groninger Museum are known for their high-profile exhibitions. On "drenthe.nl" you will find much more information about galleries, sculpture gardens and studios. And don't forget the gems of Groningen during your stay, such as the monastery in Ter Apel or the museum village of Bourtange.

Since 2002 we have enjoyed living in Drenthe on the Hondsrug. We still enjoy our living environment every day. Outside, where the air is clean and you can still see the stars at night. When we came to live here we agreed: 'From now on we will no longer be busy, we don't have to anymore and difficult is a forbidden word'. Of course that does not always work, but as a "mindset" it works for us. We experience all this as great wealth and would like to share this wealth with others.

Explanation of the prices & cancellation policy

On changeover days, the cottage is available from 3:30 pm and until 10:30 am. A booked period can easily be extended by a single day, of course subject to availability. In that case, please contact us.

Cancellation is of course also possible, depending on the date of written cancellation by the tenant we will charge:

cancellation more than 3 months before the start of the rental period: free of charge
Cancellation between the 90th and the 60th day before the start of the rental period: 25% of the rental price
Cancellation between the 59th and the 30th day before the start of the rental period: 50% of the rental price
cancellation less than 30 days before the start of the rental period: 100% of the rental price

If the tenant only announces on the start date or during the rental period that he will not make any use of the leased property, he will continue to owe the full rent.

There is a lot to do around Buitencentrum Het Boomkroonpad! An exciting trip through the root tunnel. Like a squirrel through the tops of the trees. Play at De Bosweide or in Het Lorkenspeelbos, where nothing is necessary and a lot is allowed. For example, building huts or baking bread. Go on a treasure hunt together through the forest or walk along the most beautiful spots of the forestry. The Boomkroonpad is 125 meters long and has an experience time of approximately 30 minutes. It is also the starting point for forest walks through the Gieten-Borger forestry. Also visit the outdoor center. In addition to an appealing presentation about forest life and a forest shop, you get all the information here for a pleasant day, afternoon or morning in the forest.

With this walk of 7.5 kilometers through forests, heaths and drifting sand, along dolmens and fields between Exloo and Odoorn, you travel 470,000 years in time. You'll see impressive remains of the Ice Ages and the enigmatic Leewal meandering through the landscape. A timeline provides a lot of information about the history of the Hondsrug region. Take on the role of the old TT heroes during the 65-kilometer Tour de TT bike tour. By bike you can enjoy all the beauty that Drenthe has to offer and you also ride the two former TT circuits. The most special parts of the bike tour are the old circuits. Almost a century ago, in 1925, the circuit of more than 28 kilometers ran over a long road triangle from Rolde to Borger, via Schoonloo to Grolloo and back to Rolde. Feel the riders tearing over this course. The fact that the course was no more than 3 meters wide and partly unpaved, was no obstacle. More info at:

Visit the Cathedral of Speed. The first Dutch TT was held on Saturday July 11, 1925. There was still no 'real' circuit. They were races on the open road. The 28.4 km road triangle between Rolde (start / finish), Borger and Schoonloo served as the circuit. That route is well planned and also fun to ride by bike. More info at:
