The house in the Eifel is a former farmhouse from 1760, which has been converted into a comfortable holidayhouse while retaining original features. It is on the hill of 500 meters in the center of the small village Feuerscheid. Feuerscheid lies between the towns of Bitburg and Prüm in the height of Waxweiler and is easily accessible from the E42. The driving distance from Luxembourg is less than 1.5 hours, from Utrecht three hours.
The house can accommodate 6 people.
Because the farm dates back to 1760, there are low ceilings in some rooms!
On the ground floor is the living room, reading room and dining room. All of these chambers are in open communication with each other. However, there is level between home and reading room.
From the living room you have a beautiful view of the garden, the valley and the forested mountains on the other side of the valley in the morning, as the fog slowly lifts you see a picture like it was advertising for Spa's water.
There is in the living room a two and three seater sofa and sitting area with two chairs. There is a small TV with DVD. There are movies and series available.
In the sixties, there is a sheltered housing attached to the house. We have learned this in 2012 in the living room. It is two steps lower and therefore it gives more ceiling height. Here is a three seater sofa, wood stove (this is for nice, because the house has central heating) and a well-stocked bookcase.
In the dining room (in former times this was the kitchen) is the original sink still present, like the bread oven, which were 12 to 50 years ago weekly loaves baked! There is a 100-year-old oak refectory dining table with four chairs, also a semi-antique chair for a fifth term. If necessary, a stool or folding chair bijgapakt be for a sixth person. There is a nice storage shelf placed in this space, which is extra crockery and find tablecloths, placemats and coasters are.
Most of the dishes can be found in the kitchen.
The walls of the house, as in French homes, 60 cm thick and they run anywhere right. The wide window sills give atmosphere to the house. Under the house is a basement with stamp mud floor.
The farmhouse was built in the so-called Trierer Langhaus style. The outbuildings are attached to the house and are accessible from the inside. Earlier residents have the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room adjoining workshop built in the former forge. On the back there again lying pig has changed little. We store the garden tools on there.
The kitchen is spacious, bright and luxurious.
Is a completely new bathroom installed. On the ground floor
This is accessed via a steps down. Good to know for those less mobile.
The bedrooms are on the 1st and 2nd floor of the house, which is divided into a double and single bedroom on the 1st floor and a triple bedroom on the 2nd floor. Alternatively, it may be a fourth / sixth berth also created the attic through a trundle.
On request can be a baby cot. But the house is not really set to little ones. Thus there are no stair gates and the garden is not fully enclosed.
The whole house has central heating. In the living room, however, you will find no radiators, because we found that do not fit in a house with so much history. The outer walls have wall heaters. This has the advantage that you need to heat, less warm the thermostat at 17 * is ample. And if you arrive in the winter in the cold house, you're after the thermostat has been put up, 10 minutes in the radiation coming from the wall. Super Snug!
So much for the house, the garden, especially grassland with trees, runs obliquely downwards. Our house is situated on the hill of Feuerscheid and is partly divided into terraces. Along the house is a long paved terrace. In good weather you can see for miles. In the garden there are no games for children. 200 meters away from our house is namely a magnificent playground and a sports field. Obviously there is a barbecue.
In Feuerscheid are no shops. Shopping can be done in Waxweiler the Edeka, this stock is in terms similar to AH. The Edeka is open weekdays until 20:00. Saturday until 18:00. On Sunday morning, the baker in the Edeka open until 11:00 for fresh bread and cake. In Bitburg Prüm and be found. Lidl and Aldi The Lidl in Prüm is open weekdays until 21:00. Waxweiler is a 10 minute drive. Bitburg and Prüm reached in under 20 minutes.
On Thursday, the Heiko in the village. This is the German SRV. They come around 15:00 and stop at the neighbor on the door. There will also be a baker, but we still do not know when. Our house is fully focused on the garden, here is the front door. Thus, you make little of street life. The suppliers do not call, but honk.
Luxembourg, Trier and the Moselle region are close by.
The dream of owning a house in France slumbered long time with us, but when the opportunity arose, we made the switch to the Eifel. It is much closer, making a weekendstay possible, and in terms of scenery it looks like Ardennes and Northern France. The friendly villages, the charme of this farmhouse, we loved it. History and nature together, it was exactly what we were looking for and it is good to combine with our work in our own bookshop.
