Holiday house

La basse Maza - La Vigne

Very comfortable house with new kitchen since April 2024, beautiful bathroom, granulate stove and covered terrace.  This house has been restored in such a way that the authenticity has been preserved and the interior has been adapted to our current needs and wishes.

You will find: sun, peace, space, privacy and beautiful views. A true hiking paradise. Located at an altitude of about 400m in the mountains. This area was declared a protected nature reserve in 2010 (Parc Regional des Monts d'Ardeche). You can descend directly to the river Gluyere  (14 min) where you have your own private swimming facility. In 2015, La Vigne was equipped with chestnut wood frames, double glazing and roll-up mosquito nets. For the little guests there is a playground and sandbox . The creativity in your children will come out again. Making scoop nets and carving walking sticks; too good to be true!! Playing hide and seek etcetera.

For you there is a jeu de boule course on the grounds of Basse Maza (the balls can be found in the house and the rules) with nice seats around it. You  can  use the various terraces and enjoy the morning sun in a beautiful rock garden. Under the chestnut tree there is a nice seating area where you can exchange your stories while enjoying a welcome wine, which we offer you as a guest of La Vigne. 10 km away is a survival-adventure Park Aquarock, where young and old can be active in mountain and water sports. This is located on the Dolce Via. The Dolce Via is a beautiful path, made over an old train track. You will come across a few more stations. You can walk,  cycle and also swim in the river. There is an overview map in la Vigne. Terre Adélice is also located on this river. In a beautiful monumental building you  will find an ice cream parlor with more than 95 different flavors of ice cream. This ice cream is known throughout France. A beautiful terrace overlooking the river completes the picture.

Between 12.00 - 1500 hours most restaurants offer an interesting menu.  Menu du Jour (3 or 4 courses).  The prices are about € 20, - including wine and coffee. This only applies from Monday to Friday. I am happy to give you information about the different restaurants (my top 10!). Something for everyone!

We are Carla and Willem. We continue my father's legacy.
In 45 years, my father has made sure that it is as it is now: A paradise on earth! Located in Parc Naturel Regional des Monts d'Ardeche.
We have named our house "La Vigne" because there is a grape vine growing over the lower terrace. In the autumn it is wonderful to pick grapes, eat them or make juice from them. For us it is pure enjoyment of peace and simplicity in this particularly beautiful place

Explanation of the prices & cancellation policy

Prices apply per period based on a 2 person occupancy. For more than 2 people, an additional 25 euros will be charged per person per week. Maximum occupancy of 6 people is allowed.

If the tenant wishes to cancel the booking for whatever reason, the tenant must always confirm this to the landlord by e-mail (even if, for example, this has already been communicated to the landlord by telephone). Landlord will charge the following amounts, depending on the date of written cancellation by the tenant:
  • Cancellation between the 90th and the 60th day before the start of the rental period: 25% of the rental price
  • Cancellation between the 59th and the 30th day before the start of the rental period: 50% of the rental price
  • Cancellation less than 30 days before the start of the rental period: 100% of the rental price
If the tenant only announces on the start date or during the rental period that he will no longer use the rented property, he will continue to owe the full rent.

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

The house is part of an originally centuries-old hamlet. The whole has been tastefully restored with respect for the environment. Each cottage has plenty of privacy with its own terrace(s) and garden, and beautiful views. Around the cottages there is a large area with communal facilities (seating areas, terraces, playground, jeu-de-boule track etc).
The area is ideal for walks (see separate description). You can swim in the river, which borders the site (descent of about 15 minutes). By car you can make beautiful nature trips (volcanic landscape of the Monts de l'Ardeche, valley of the Eyrieux and the Gluyere, chestnut forests on centuries-old terraces etc) or a cultural trip to e.g. Nimes, the Pont de Gare or Avignon.
La Basse Maza is a good starting point for hikes. In the cottage you will find descriptions of walks in the immediate vicinity. Besides the beautiful scenery you'll often during these walks can enjoy the beautiful, sometimes ancient, terrace walls, which are characteristic for this region.
La basse Maza is located in the middle of a chestnut region. In October, there are plenty of sweet chestnuts, and chestnut festivals are held. During the rest of the year, you will find special products made from chestnut in various shops. But you can also get many tasty local products "from the farm" and at the market: goat cheeses (the Picodon is a delicious Ardèche cheese), artisanal sorbet ice cream, jams, honey, etc.
In St. Pierreville there is a Chestnut museum!!
In the autumn, a painting by artist Maud Qaedvlieg week. We work on location or in the quiet surroundings of the gehuchtje.Doorgaans you can work in different techniques and materials such as charcoal, black chalk, east indian ink, pastel, etc. and painting with acrylic, watercolor or egg tempera. Check the website of Maud or ask for more information.
