Kötschach-Mauthen located in the southwest of Carinthia, on the border with Italy. It is your ideal destination for both sun and snow holidays. Whether you like active sports vacations or just keep your peace and natural beauty to enjoy, it's all in Kötschach-Mauthen.

Tips for trips:

Mauthener Klam
At 5 minutes by car. In Mauthen. Parking at the Waldbad and then follow the pedestrian signs.
Surprisingly pretty damp.

Garnitzen clammy
Approximately 30 minutes by car. Direction Hermagor, Signs Garnitzen follow.
Superb clammy.
Highly recommended. Route consists of three sections. After each part there is the possibility to return to the starting point for hiking.

Ragaschlucht and Möltaler gletzer.
In Mölltal. Direction and Lienz Lienz Möltal right direction.
Both beautiful and fun to combine. Especially in clear weather.

Grossglockner
This is the highest mountain in Austria (3798 m)
You can see the glacier. The route towards it, the Hochalpen strasse, is beautiful. Through the National Park Hohe Tauern.
From the chalet towards Lienz Lienz and right. Grossglockner follow signs.

Meadow Burger and Nölblinger Wasserfälle.
Nice to briefly on the bicycle.
From the chalet on the bike path along the direction of Gail Hermagor.
Suspension bridge crossing Meadow direction Burg. Signs Wasserfäl follow.
Or continue the road until the next village (Nölbling) and here follow the signs Wasserfälle. You can then back through Wûrmlach Mauthen and cycling.

Lesachtal
The Lesachtal by the German ADAC voted most authentic piece of Austria. It is therefore beautiful.
Economically, the valley focused on Kötschach. This valley begins in Kötschach in Billa, here turn right and continue to Sillian. You will come up by Maria Luggau, a famous pilgrimage town. In Obertilliach you can take the elevator up. This is a very nice in the winter ski area. In each village start hiking into the mountains. You can go back through Italy or Lienz.

Winter sports


General:
Carinthia is less known in Dutch as the winter goes. This is probably because the slightly further away as all the famous resorts on the north side of the Alps.

It is for us something in return;
- There is a friendly atmosphere.
- In general, there is a lot quieter on the slopes during the apres-ski. - The prices are clearly lower
- The climate is a lot better. (Many more hours of sunshine, even in winter)

Ski
In Kötschach is a sporting goods store (Sports Putz 2000) where you can rent skis. Here you immediately that it was much quieter here to happen there. (No queuing)

Ski School
People with children are especially at Kötschach here to take ski lessons. The lessons are excellent, small classes, well organized and a lot cheaper.

Nassfeld ski area

Nassfeld
There are plenty of skiing in Nassfeld. It is with 110 km slopes of Carinthia's largest ski area. There are both blue, red and a few black runs.
A beautiful panorama Talabfart (partially evening light) and lots of cozy skihutjes.
You can also plentiful snowboarding (World Cup 2002, held here) and is a fun park for the more advanced. Also for the children everything perfectly organized.
From the People's Bank at the church in Kötschach leaves the ski bus to Nassfeld. (3 minutes walk from the chalet) By car it takes about 25 minutes.

Ski Zetterfeld

Ski Zetterfeld is near Lienz. Approximately 30 minutes by auto.Lekker quiet and beautiful trails and vistas. Even very cozy huts where you can serve local food and drink. Moreover, this slope on the southern slope and you can here also sit in the sun.
The disadvantage is that you should go by car because there is no ski bus ride from Kötschach to Lienz.

Skiing in the village

Kötschach-Mauthen has a small quiet resort. With two stunning runs (blue, red and 3km 1.5 km) and a nice practice area. Very nice for beginners.
Lift passes and lessons can discuss down by the elevator. Payment in cash, there is no payment by debit cards as possible.

Along the descent to Laas (red), you pass a cozy (Gemütliche) ski "ödenhûtte". Definitely recommended!
There is also down in the elevator limited ability to apres-ski.

Further ski

Besides skiing, there are plenty of other winter sports.

Skating on the Weissensee. (Known from the alternative Elfstedentocht)

Cross-country skiing.
There are several cross-country trails off in the village. Especially along the Gail is much gelanglaufd. In the Gailtal is over 200 km of trails prepared.

Walking with snowshoes.
Sport In 2000 you can rent snowshoes special making it easy walks through the snow can make.

The village is also a skating rink and regular competitions and "Eisklettern" (climbing ice walls against) organized.

Luge.
On the Gailberg (5 to 10 minutes by car) is an illuminated toboggan run. Sleds are in the shed at the chalet.
