Fethiye is also the beginning / end point of the famous Lycian walking route between Antalya and Fethiye. This is about 500 km long and is well signposted. Many do only parts of it and return via the villages on the way with a dolmuschbus or taxi. The part at Fethiye is spectacular because the path leads along rocky paths with beautiful views over the sea, mountains and bays.
The seaside town of Fethiye is 20 km away and can be reached by car in 15 minutes. Fethiye is an old Lycian city and has kept its own authentic character. It has no mass tourism. There are a few large supermarkets and an old bazar and fish market. The city is characterized by relaxed atmosphere, liberal and friendly people and many restaurants on the long hiking bay (about 4 km long). Close to beautiful bay beaches there are many interesting Greek / Roman excavations in the area such as Tlos, Letoon. Also the famous Saklikent walk is nearby, as well as Dalayan with Lycian rock tombs, war springs, mud baths, cold water springs and breeding ground for sea turtles. Antalya and Pamukele are both about 2-2.5 hours drive from Fethiye.
