Location & area recommendations

Additional information

There are few places on earth where you can ski or snowboard in the morning and hit the beach in the afternoon. The Sierra Nevada in southern Spain, Andalusia is one of these fantastic places.Although only a 2 hour drive from the Costa del Sol, the Sierra Nevada has the best snow in Spain.
The Sierra Nevada is Spain's number 1 winter sports destination. This area, just half an hour's drive from the beautiful city of Granada, is ideal for all winter sports enthusiasts. It is suitable for beginners to very advanced. There are over 83km of ski slopes in the Sierra Nevada with an elevation gain of 1200m. And there is snow about 5 months a year. The ski season in Sierra Nevada normally lasts from the beginning of December until about the end of April. There are many ski schools and shops where you can rent your ski equipment. The slopes are normally open from 9 am to 5 pm and sometimes evening skiing is possible on weekends and public holidays. There is also plenty to do in the evenings, the ski village has several restaurants, bars and discos. All full of skiers and snowboarders who come to enjoy themselves. The ski village in Sierra Nevada has many trendy shops selling the latest in clothing and ski equipment. As for the precipitation in Sierra Nevada it usually falls in the form of snow during the months of November to February and in large quantities. December is the month with the most precipitation. In winter, the maximum temperatures barely rise above 0 Cº while the minimum temperatures can reach 10 degrees below zero. The total capacity of the lifts is 44,955 persons per hour. There are two cabin lifts, 16 chair lifts, 2 drag lifts and 3 roller conveyors. Various lift passes are offered.

Guaranteed snow In the Sierra Nevada you will never be without snow, thanks to the many snow cannons that lend nature a hand. Even if it hasn't snowed for a while, snow can be made.

The Alhambra is a large palace complex from the time of the Moors. They ruled Spain until the sixteenth century. They infused many Islamic elements into Spanish culture. Part of their art are the different flower/star-shaped patterns. The horseshoe-shaped arch is also a recognizable construction from Moorish art. In the eleventh century, the Moors started building their own palace complex: the Alhambra. The complex consists of various palaces, towers, halls and patios. Outside the Alhambra there is also much to admire; the nature is beautiful there.
In the sixteenth century, the Spaniards returned to the battle for their land. The city of Granada came back into the hands of the Spaniards. Where in other parts of Spain Moorish art was razed to the ground in no time, the rulers in Granada allowed this art to exist. There is much to see and discover in the Alhambra. It may therefore not surprise you that this building is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The village of Ronda is located in the province of Málaga in Andalusia, Spain. Ronda has about 35 thousand inhabitants and is located in the Sierra de las Nievas, a national park of Andalusia. The location of Ronda is very nice, because it is a bit higher on large hills overlooking a gorge. The village is located at about 750 meters above sea level. The Guadalevín rivies flows through the village, splitting it into two parts, so to speak.

Ronda is a cozy place with many sights and a nice center where you can have a drink or a drink. The village is a lot quieter than the big cities of Andalusia, and it is often a little less hot.
A spectacular walk: the Caminito Del Rey. About 60 km north of Málaga is the King's Path. A hiking trail with a total length of about 8 km that takes you through the Defiladero de los Gitanes gorge. For many years, the Caminito Del Rey was known as the most dangerous hiking trail in the world. Nowadays it is still a spectacular walk, but now it is completely safe to walk. I recommend that you buy an entrance ticket (via the official website) for a guided walk from the Netherlands. He or she will tell you the history during the walk and draw your attention to everything you encounter during the tour.
Bring good shoes, water and some food for the road.
Cádiz is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Spain. The city is also called Little Havana or Havana of Spain, because of its resemblance to Cuban Havana. Cádiz is bursting with beautiful historic and colorful buildings and is located on a small peninsula, so you are surrounded by water on three sides. It is a unique city for a city trip and a perfect addition to a tour of Andalusia.
From San Pedro, Cadiz is 180 km away by car.
Urban Bistro bar: wine, various cocktails and a small menu
Dgustación: modern Mediterranean creative tasting, exclusive cocktails, somewhat higher price level
Chey by Divot: dishes from the charcoal grill, extensive wine list, some high price level
Da Bruno: good Italian restaurant, pizza pasta and fish and meat dishes
Cerveceria La mas Fria, always busy with locals, spanish tapas.
Within walking distance towards the center of San Pedro, just past the new boulevard:
Brasserie El Marques: surprising menu, tapas, Indonesian dishes, good cocktails, extensive wine selection. Very good value for money
La Kasita: tapas y mas. Tasty little dishes to share, good wines and service.
El Vecino: restaurant located next to the church, a mix of Spanish and Dutch dishes
San Pedro beach promenade:
Kala Kalua, chiringuito, spanish beach restaurant, (facing the sea, left at the end of the beach boulevard), delicious location for dinner and lunch, extensive menu, many fish dishes
Nuevo Reino, spanish specialty restaurant, terrace on the beach, since 1957 in San Pedro de Alcantara. Highly recommended!
Tarifa is located on one of the southernmost points of Spain, right across from Morocco, and slightly west of Gibraltar. Due to its favorable location in relation to the Mediterranean and Atlantic Oceans, the place is particularly known for its suitability for various wind sports. Because the Strait of Gibraltar is nearby, the wind currents in Tarifa experience a kind of 'tunnel effect'. This form of wind is quite unique in Europe and makes Tarifa particularly popular for example
