Casa les Marruixes

Casa Les Marruixes (pronounced: Mar-roe-tsjes) is located at the highest point of the village near the historic tower and the church. The house consists of 4 floors, of which the ground floor is for guests, including use of the roof terrace with fantastic views over the surroundings. We live on the 1st floor for a few months a year.

The house used to be inhabited by a wealthy, peasant family with farmlands and olive groves around the village. It was the only family that owned horses to work the land, where others only had donkeys. Les Marruixes is the local nickname for the inhabitants who were both rich and very pious.
The house is located in the center of quiet Calig, which quickly makes you feel part of the village. People greet each other in a friendly way and at the bakery around the corner you will be recognized as a resident of Casa Les Marruixes after a few days. The square at the end of the street is the center of all the traditional village festivals.

In the village there is a bakery and a supermarket. And there are several cafes where you can also have a delicious lunch or eat tapas. The beach of Vinarós is a fifteen minute drive away and if you drive the other way, you can enjoy winding roads through the mountains with fantastic views over the area Le Maestrat with endless olive and orange groves, small villages and old castles. A fantastic area for hiking or going on an adventure with your MTB.

Through the entrance of the house you enter the spacious, sunny kitchen with a large dining table and equipped with everything you need. We provide the basic necessities such as coffee, tea, herbs and a bottle of drinking water.
The bathroom is simple but functional, with toilet, sink and a nice shower. Soft towels are provided for you.
At the back of the house, where it always stays cool, are the living room and the bedroom. The living room has a 2.5 seater sofa and a nice armchair, television, games and information about the area.
The bedroom, with lots of privacy, has a comfortable 2 person bed, made with fresh sheets. The light patio provides daylight and fresh air.

And then... Take the stairs up to the roof terrace. Here you can enjoy the sun and the view, long evenings with wine and the BBQ on and the beautiful sunsets. You look out over the village, the hills around and in the distance nature reserve Siera d'irta and a small piece of the coast at Peñiscola. Due to the layout and the historical elements, the house is not suitable for children.
