Alhama de Murcia is home to several beautiful churches and enchanting gardens. First and foremost, the Costa Cálida is a superb destination for a beach holiday. The coastline merges into that of the Mar Menor, a splendid lagoon with a maximum depth of no more than seven metres. This means that the waters are always pleasantly warm. Furthermore, for the first 50 metres or so the waters are really quite shallow. As a result, this beach is very suitable for a holiday with children, older family members or those with limited mobility.

Fun facts about the Costa Cálida
- Costa Cálida literally means “warm coast”. With an average temperature of 31 degrees in summer and 16 degrees in winter, it lives up to its name.
- Off the Costa Cálida lie over 90 shipwrecks, the majority of which are off the coast of Cartagena.
- Local specialties include grilled meats, calderos (rice dishes with fish) and pastel cierva (a pie filled with rabbit, pigeon or chicken and eggs).
- ‘La Manga del Mar Menor’ is the only part of the Costa Cálida where planning permission is given for tall buildings.
