For decades, my family has been coming here to relax in this fairytale and characterful family home, built for my grandparents in the sixties, hidden in the unspoilt nature of Catalonia and yet close to city and sea.
This is a place where everyone gets their money's worth – the detached house is located in the middle of a beautiful green hiking and mountain biking area and yet Barcelona and Girona are easy to visit for a day trip. Spain's award-winning PGA Catalunya Golf is only 13km away and the beach on the Costa Brava is 25km.
You are away from the crowd and there are plenty of things to do.
The moment you enter the driveway and are greeted by the two giant cypress trees, you know your vacation has begun. The house is an oasis of peace, completely private and located in a protected, bird-rich nature reserve. Enjoy the panoramic view from your sun lounger by the pool, or from one of the several terraces while the cicadas lull you to sleep. Eating outside at the long table is a pleasure.
There are two cozy bedrooms with private bathrooms, and two bedrooms that share a bathroom in the hallway. Perfect for two families, for example. There are games in the cupboard and there is no shortage of books either – by the fireplace or in the conservatory you can enjoy a drink after a day full of activity. The rustic kitchen offers all the necessary facilities – gas stove, microwave, oven, freezer and both a Nespresso and a coffee machine. Because the house also has central heating, this is also a lovely, warm place to be in autumn and winter. Take the fondue pan out of the cupboard and the party can begin.
