But on the site were found remnants of an ancient city. Good counsel was expensive, but a compromise was reached. The university building came with a museum in the basement. The Costa Blanca is a series of beautiful beaches. Most of them consist of fine white sand, but there are also some pebble beaches, practically sun-drenched every day of the year and therefore a magnet for people from the northern regions of Europe. Nice and lazy on the beach, a bit of swimming, a drink on the boulevard. Relax and do nothing, you can, but you don't have to. All resorts on the Costa Blanca offer plenty of opportunities for more activity. You don't have to do that every day or all day, but if you feel like it: windsurfing, snorkeling, diving, jet skiing, fishing, horseback riding, sailing etc. And are you looking for peace and no crowds around you? That can also be found on the Costa Blanca. Beach tips The southern part of the Costa Blanca offers lovers of sun, sea and beach a wide range to choose from. If you want, you can have a different 'beach experience' every day. We give you some tips: Alicante combines beautiful beaches with a very pleasant boulevard with numerous palm trees and many cafes and restaurants. While you have a drink or a snack you have a wide view over the Mediterranean Sea. Santa Pola is a popular fishing and tourist town. The beaches are therefore quite busy. From the harbor you can take a day trip to the island of Tabarca. The sea area around the island has been a nature reserve since 1986 and is popular with recreational divers. A little further south is Playa Rebollo at La Marina. This beach is wide and fairly quiet without significant buildings. On the other side of La Marina, Playa del Pinet has its own atmosphere with old fisherman's houses on the beach. At the end of the 19th century, Guardamar was threatened by the advancing sand. Then it was decided to plant pine trees. That helped and it also gave Guardamar the wonderful combination of forest and beach. These beautiful beaches continue to La Mata. They are wide and have very fine sand, the dunes are a protected nature reserve. Also recommended is the Reina Sofia Park with lakes and waterfalls. The beaches south of Torrevieja are quite busy. In the city itself is a long boulevard, where a market is held every day. As you will understand: this is just a few of the dozens of beaches in the southern Costa Blanca. There is something for everyone: busy beaches or quiet beaches, vibrant beach life or quiet nature, a calm sea or turbulent waves, active or lazy. You name it, it can be found on the Costa Blanca.
The landscape of the southern Costa Blanca is characterized by extensive rice fields and orchards with oranges, lemons, clementines, grapes and almonds. Fruit trees near Murcia Many vegetables are also grown. It is not without reason that the area is also called 'the vegetable garden of Europe'. Santa-Pola has the largest fishing fleet in Spain, where the best of the sea is brought in daily. A wealth of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and fish. It is therefore not surprising that the cuisine of the Costa Blanca is very varied and very tasty. In addition, the Mediterranean cuisine is known as very healthy: balanced and always with fresh ingredients. Rice is an important basis for many dishes. Did you know that the Spaniards know no less than 300 different ways to prepare rice? Arroz a la marinera is fishing rice, arroz al horno is oven-baked rice, and arroz con costra is egg crust rice. And that's just three ways. The best-known example of a rice dish is the world-famous paella, which has its roots in the Valencia region. According to tradition, a man should make paella; it would be the corruption of 'para ella': for her. There are many variations on the paella: with prawns, squid, garlic, chicken, goat meat, beef, fruits ... almost everything can be processed in a paella. But the kitchen of the Costa Blanca does not stop at paella. On the coast, restaurants offer a variety of fish dishes and in the interior there are delicious stews of game or meat. The gazpacho cold vegetable soup also comes from this region. Furthermore, dried salty fish or meat is often used, and cheese is not to be missed, even if it is not Gouda or Edam cheese. Try the Puzol or Cassoleta, often prepared from a mixture of goat, sheep and cow's milk. The Moors have left their sweet specialty turrón. As with nougat, it is made from almonds, but it tastes slightly different, and fruit is also abundant. Try the nisperos, a small orange fruit that looks a bit like apricot. The taste is also reminiscent of that, but then combined with apple and plum. Very rich in vitamins! Of course you can also enjoy delicious Spanish wines. The wines of Monóvar-Pinoso from the region are highly recommended. Furthermore, delicious liqueurs are made in Alicante. Examples are the coffee liqueur Aperitivo Café de Alcoy, the aniseed drink Anís Paloma de Monforte del Cid and the herbal liqueur Herbero de la Sierra de Mariola. Apples of 'Orange' In short, the Costa Blanca is a delight for culinary gourmets. And if, under all this culinary violence, you long for a piece of meat with potatoes: there are also plenty of international restaurants!
