Apartment

Our ground floor apartment is located in a quiet part of the popular Albir district of Alfaz del Pi and yet not too far from the village (1 km.) And
the beach (1.4 km.) The property is part of a quiet complex 'La Loma'. It was built in 1977 and still has the typical Spanish atmosphere of yesteryear. The property was renovated in the spring of 2018. For example, a completely new kitchen has been installed, the gas bottles have been replaced with electric, the bathroom has been tiled again, the walls of the living room have been plastered again and there are 3 air conditioners / heaters installed in the living room and the bedrooms. The property consists of 2 bedrooms: 1 large with a double bed and 1 small with a bunk bed, 1 bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin, and a living room with open kitchen. In the living room are two comfortable armchairs and
a 2.5-seater sofa, a dining table with 4 chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a 4-burner electric hob, combi microwave / oven, fridge-freezer combination, kettle, senseo coffee machine, toaster, sandwich maker, plenty of kitchen utensils and a washing machine. There are two terraces, one at the front and one at the back. The front terrace has morning sun. Here is a round dining table with 4 comfortable seats. The back terrace has afternoon sun and there is a lounge set. The latter is accessible through the patio doors from the living room. There is wifi and smart TV with Dutch satellite TV. Everything is on the ground floor. No stairs to come in. The complex is closed off from the street with an electrically operated gate and has a large parking area and a communal swimming pool. The nicely maintained
Gardens around the apartments offer a lot of privacy and give the apartment a friendly appearance. From the terrace at the front and from the pool you look at the mountain called 'Sierra Helada' (iceberg) because the morning sun takes a while before it rises above the mountain. This mountain has been declared national park 'La Sierra Helada': the largest and most special nature park of the Costa Blanca. Special, because it concerns both the land and water of the Mediterranean Sea and is the domain of many special marine animals and has a large diversity of flowering and special marine plants. A nice park for walking, cycling, or even diving. You can take beautiful walks to the top, to the lighthouse or across the ridge to the cross in Benidorm. The official starting point from which the walks start is 1.6 km. The view from the mountain is truly spectacular with steep cliffs on one side
above the Mediterranean Sea (in very clear weather Ibiza can be seen) and on the other side the view from Alicante to Calpe and the beautiful mountain ranges all around. The location is exactly between Benidorm (5.7 km.) With all the fun and amusement parks and the picturesque town of Altea (5.5 km), the pearl of the Costa Blanca.

My name is Agnes Verloop, born in Amsterdam but after many wanderings I found my place in Appelscha. I work in a gardencentre. I love gardening and together with my daughter and our schapendoes and dachshund enjoy the nature that is abundantly present in the area. When we are in Spain, we take beautiful walks in the mountains and in summer the swimming pool and the sea are more attractive. Together we enjoy the Spanish culture and the Spanish delicacies.

Location & tips

Additional information

You do not want to miss this experience. You can combine nature with culture. Since 2011, an exhibition has been set up in the house by the lighthouse. Besides that you can see how the two families of the lighthouse keepers from Alfaz del Pi lived and lived here for a century until 1963 when the lighthouse was mechanized, there is also a continuous art exhibition with collections linked to marine culture, the environment and the surroundings of the Sierra Helada nature park. The walk to the lighthouse is an experience in itself, so even when the museum is closed, it is very worthwhile. You get a lot of information about the place via information signs along the road. You will pass an ocher mine and see the restored remains of the bombarda watchtower that had to protect the country against the pirates. Left and right of the road are viewpoints with a beautiful view of the bay of Albir, Altea and Calpe. You can also take a look at the other side of the mountain with the steep cliffs via a viewpoint on the right side of the road. With a bit of luck you can spot dolphins with the naked eye or through the binoculars. The walk (possibly bike ride) is good for everyone. The total length is 4.4 km. 2.2 km. and 2.2 km. back. The road is well paved and rises only very gradually. You can even come here in a wheelchair.

Visit the beautiful waterfalls of Algar. Via wooden stairs you walk up past all the waterfalls. The clear mountain water is wonderfully refreshing. You can enjoy swimming, diving and picnicking, but I also highly recommend the restaurant. Especially the prawns al ajillo! mmmmmm. You can also find many regional products in the village. This is especially the area of the nisperos (medlar) Worth a try! Tip: Go early because you are not the only one who likes to go to the falls and take river shoes to safely wade through the river and swim.
You can't miss Altea! It is my favorite village. If I have not been to Altea my holiday does not feel complete. We usually park behind the station and then immediately walk up all the stairs. If we have more time, we park in the fishing port. The colorful fishing boats arrive around 6 pm. Always nice to see the activity. We walk there a round to the lighthouse at the head of the harbor and back along the top. From here it is wonderful to stroll along the beautiful boulevard and then via the many streets and stairs to the beautiful church with a blue dome that stands off from far away. If you have not already found a nice restaurant on the boulevard, you will certainly find it in Altea around the church. Incidentally, it is not difficult to find the church despite the maze of streets. Just keep walking up. All the streets are beautiful and worth it so it makes a difference how you get up. If you do not want to walk stairs, you just drive to the end of the boulevard and then up at the traffic lights and before you leave the village, turn left once more. Here you will always find a parking space and you walk quite flat towards the church square with the beautiful view of Albir; the cozy terraces and the art market that can be visited every evening in the summer until late in the evening. Everywhere in the streets around the church you will find beautiful boutiques with art, clothing, jewelry, etc. Another idea is to visit the weekly market of Altea on Tuesday morning between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and combine it with a visit to the old fishing village. The market is seen from Albir on the other side of the village. https://www.refugiomarnes.com/blog/activities/dorpen-and-steden/mooiste-dorpen-costa-blanca-altea/
A beautiful bike tour through the beautiful hinterland without having to pedal! You will be picked up at home and taken to the highest point of the Costa Blanca on the Sierra Aitana. There you will receive a mountain bike that you can test for a while, followed by a short explanation about the bike and the safety regulations for traveling. You only cycle downhill through the beautiful mountainous nature with spectacular views and picturesque villages. You cycle through forest and among others orange, lemon and almond orchards. Together with the herbs along the way, this provides a wonderful scent sensation. All this under the guidance of the owners with two vans. One bus drives ahead of the group and the other bus drives after the group. Drinking is provided on the way during the stops. At these moments interesting information is provided about the area while you can enjoy the view for a moment. There is air in the restaurant with an extensive menu of Animal Park Aitana. This lunch is for your own account. Nothing compulsory because you can also bring a packed lunch yourself and eat it outside.
