Holiday house

This detached house is located on the outskirts of the village of Pinheiros, just north of the historic city of Tomar.
You are here in the heart of Portugal surrounded by hills with olive groves and vineyards.
The central location is ideal for day trips to Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra or to the famous surf beach of Nazaré. There are also several natural river beaches in the vicinity.

Large area around the house
The holiday home is located on a piece of land of about 1.5 hectares full of fruit trees. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the nature around you.

At some distance from the holiday home is a second house where the owner occasionally vacations. However, due to the architectural style of both houses and a lockable gate, you always have a lot of privacy.

The area

The surrounding hilly landscape is characterized by the many vineyards and olive and oak trees.
It is a nice area for walking. Nature is varied and there are natural swimming spots in the area. For example, at the source of Agroal, the large reservoir and other rivers in the area.

Facilities within walking distance
An 8-minute walk will take you to a café, a mini market, and a petrol station.

Internet: Casa do Serrador has Wifi.

For more than 20 years we have been regularly holidaying in our house in Portugal.
There are 2 houses on the property and we ourselves occasionally stay in one of the two houses. We rent out the other house.
Because of the way the houses are built and the distance between them, you are always assured of a lot of space and privacy.
We hope you enjoy the Portuguese countryside as much as we do.

Additional information

You rent the house with porches that you see in the main photo.
There is another house on the terrain where we sometimes spend our own holidays.
But, almost always the other house will be empty. So you can enjoy privacy and tranquility.

More about the property:
Ground floor: living room with sofa and kitchen with large dining table and chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a double-door refrigerator, convection oven / microwave and stove. But you'll have to make do without the luxury of a dishwasher
Next to the living room is a spacious living/bedroom (±5m x 6m), with a large double bed, a table with chairs, a sink and a bathroom with toilet and shower.
At the front of the house there is a veranda with table and chairs.
At the rear there is a patio with table and chairs under the walnut tree.

Outside to the 1st floor:
The large living/bedroom on the 1st can be reached via an outside covered staircase. This room features a spacious double bed, a (sleeping) sofa and a bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower.
In front of this room there is a small private veranda where you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view.

Reservations and prices
The rent is € 320 per week year round. For the 2nd week and for every next week, you pay only €295 per week. The house is basically meant for 4 people, but sometimes it is possible to reserve for extra persons.
For babies it is possible to reserve a camping bed for which linen can be provided.

Practical Information
We assume that every holidaymaker will take care for the house and the grounds as well as possible. In this way we can keep the price affordable.
Upon departure you must leave the house sweeped and tidy.
For the final cleaning we charge €30.

What you may expect from us:
- You will be welcomed by Miranda and Ernst, who live about 3 kilometers away. They will familiarize you with the house and the grounds. During your stay, you can always contact them with your questions about the house, the area, or fun outings.
- Beds are made and towels, kitchen towels and tea towels are provided. 1x per week you will receive clean linen.
- There are board games, a large bookcase, a radio/CD player and tourist information available.

Additional requests:
- If you want, we are happy to provide a welcome package with some first shoppings so you do not have to go to the grocery store right away. The cost for this service is €25.
- If you are coming by public transport, there are opportunities to be picked up from the train station in Tomar, Entroncamento or Caxarias.

The Convento de Cristo in Tomar is world famous and a Unesco World Heritage Site. The monastery is located high on top of the hill on the edge of the old center. You can walk around for hours through the many buildings and courtyards. In the summer always nice and cool.
Tomar has a nice old center with restaurants and cafes and a large market on Fridays.
Environment
Directly from your front door you can take many beautiful walks. There is a map available in the house with some closeby walks.
Also the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella runs right behind the house.
Many more hikes are possible in the vicinity. More information can be found in the leaflets in the house.
You can visit natural parcs, historical Roman sites and the big lake with its big dams.
You could also visit the beautiful cities of Porto and Lisbon as a daytrip.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SWIM
You can swim in several rivers and lakes in the vicinity. Or even in the open air pool in Tomar.
You could take the nice walk from the house to Sobreirinho and have a lovely swim in the river.
And there is another beautiful 45 minute walk through the hills to Agroal, where you can take a refreshing swim in a natural pool with spring water. In high summer this place attracts many Portuguese families. You can have a nice lunch or diner here too. Agroal is an experience, in the summer because of the real Portuguese buzz and in the other seasons just because it is so very beautiful and quiet.
Also nearby is the large lake of Castelo do Bode, with lovely calm swimming water and water sports.

VISIT THE ATLANTIC COAST
Want to visit the seaside? It is only an hours drive to the Atlantic coast with places like like Nazaré, São Martinho do Porto and São Pedro de Moel.
But be careful, because the Atlantic Ocean is rough and you need to look for the calmer bays to enjoy your swim.

THE NEAREST HISTORICAL CITY: TOMAR
10 km from your holiday home is the nearest provincial town of Tomar, with its narrow streets and old town. You can wander through the old streets and spend hours in the beautiful Convento de Cristo (a Unesco World Heritage Monument). This is a famous and huge castle and monastery founded by the Knights Templar. It was built on a hill overlooking the city and the surroundings. Sometimes there are performances inside the castle.
Furthermore, Tomar has many facilities, such as supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, and lots of pastelarias, where you can enjoy the splendid sweet cakes of Portugal.
It has a trainstation and a busstation. There are taxis, you can rent a car and it has a nice park. The train will get you to the centre of Lisbon within 2 hours.
Tomar also has a large and lively market every Friday.

NEARBY MARKET OF CHÃOS
Every Sunday there is a small market in Chãos, which is a nearby village. Here you can eat or take away the famous Portugues grilled 'flat' chicken. And of course you can have a drink on the terrace or visit the local cafe.

HISTORICAL CITY OF COIMBRA
About 50 kilometers north you will find the ancient university city of Coimbra with a famous library.
And a few kilometers to the south of Coimbra you will find Conimbriga, an excavated Roman city, whose old cobbled streets and city gate still are in good condition.

OTHER PLACES OF INTEREST
Fátima, the famous pilgrimage site.
Ourém, a beautiful small walled town.
Batalha with a unique cathedral.
The caves in the Serra de Aire.
The Castelo de Almourol, a castle on an island in the Tagus.
Óbidos, a beautiful walled town.
These are just some of the many possibilities for day trips or sightseeing.
And of course there are concerts and fado evenings in the area.
A 10-minute drive away is the source of Agroal. A beautiful natural swimming pool has been built. And you swim in pure spring water.
There is a café-restaurant and in August when it is busy with Portuguese families there are typical seaside stalls.
Nazaré: popular with surfers for its impressively high waves and with domestic and foreign tourists for its wide sandy beaches, beautiful views of the Atlantic coast from the high cliff and the large number of fish restaurants.
