Tavira is located in the middle of the salt pans area of the Ria Formosa Natural Park on the banks of the Rio Gilao. That is in the Eastern Algarve, about thirty kilometers from Faro airport and just as far from the Spanish border.
Tavira is also called "The Venice of the Algarve"; named. Actually "city" is; a lot of credit for this village that has grown out of its strength. And that's exactly the charm! It is cosy, well-arranged, lively and cozy in all seasons. It is fantastic to stay in the pleasant center with the old Moorish quarter, squares, parks, bars and many restaurants. Don't forget the large Mercado for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.
From Tavira you take the ferry to Ilha de Tavira with beautiful stretched sandy beaches, blue sea and plenty of fun. Nearby towns such as Vila Real de Santa Antonio, Olhao and Cabanas are definitely worth a visit. The most beautiful golf courses and unspoilt nature are also located in the immediate vicinity.
