Quarteira is a charming seaside resort on the south coast of the Algarve. The former fishing village has developed into a popular holiday destination over the decades. Thanks to its clean, shallow water, Quarteira is also popular with families with children. There are excellent facilities for almost all types of water sport. So it’s a great place for sailing and wave surfing. Beginners can master these sports at one of the surf and sailing schools in the village. If you like playing golf, you’ve also come to the right place, because there are no fewer than six golf courses in Vilamoura. From Quarteira, you can also hire a car to explore the region. Interesting facts about Quarteira
- As in the rest of Portugal, they love markets in Quarteira. There is a large fruit and vegetable market in the centre, and every Wednesday there is also a Gypsy market.
- Tip for a day trip: the Zoomarine amusement park in Albufeira, a theme park with dolphin shows, water fun and much more.
- A local speciality is ‘açorda de marisco’, a bread soup made with seafood.
- Shopping is no problem in Quarteira. There is even a Lidl supermarket.
