There are places in the world that you immediately fall in love with. That happened to me in Olhão, the cubist village by the sea, with the Arab roof life, where the fishermen's wives on the watchtowers stared at the horizon to see if their husbands, with loads of fish, came home.
You sleep and work nice and cool downstairs under the high cathedral-like ceiling. On the first floor you can make coffee and have breakfast on the outdoor balcony and the rest of the day you can sunbathe, relax or drink wine on the panoramic roof terrace and watch the stars until late in the evening.
This traditional small fisherman's house has been carefully renovated and is located in the historic and pedestrian district of Baixa, in the heart of Olhão city centre.
A unique property with several terraces and a roof terrace with panoramic 360° views over the sea and the cube-shaped rooftops of Olhão. Where you can hear the birds chirping and the ringing of the church.
This neighborhood consists of cobblestone Arabic-like streets, where there are no cars and everything is walkable. As the market, ATMs, restaurants, bakery (Delicia) and supermarket (Pingo Doce) are all very close.
If you have a car, you can park for free everywhere around Olhão.
You go to the beach by taking a boat to the islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol. These boats leave a few times a day and are a 3-minute walk from the house.
If you walk 10 minutes to the right, past the hotel, you are on the salt flats. You can see the mussel fishermen at low tide and the mountain piles of white salt left to dry. Parque Naturel da Ria Formosa is a 30-minute walk away. Olhão is a bit rough around the edges, but still very authentic. The locals are friendly, the food cheap and the number of restaurants are countless.
Olhão is a 15-minute drive from Faro airport (Order a Bolt in a few minutes).
