On the Atlantic Ocean, in the Algarve, in the south of Portugal, lies the traditional fishing village of Olhão. The authentic old center consists of narrow alleys and winding streets with white and pastel-colored cubist houses with Moorish influences. This is where the townhouse of Casa Opala is located. This townhouse is equipped with all modern conveniences and an attractive interior. 

Sturdy materials such as concrete and wood and clean lines are combined with soft pastel shades. The high ceilings with the white beams create a spacious effect. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the apartment is ideal for two befriended couples or a family. 

Open living room, bright & spacious kitchen and the adjacent terrace where you can eat outside. A nice extra is the roof terrace with swimming pool, outdoor shower and lounge area, with beautiful views over the historic heart of Olhão. 

The fishing village and the surrounding area offer an authentic experience of the Algarve. Walk to the bakery in the morning for fresh bread rolls or have a delicious cup of coffee with a pastel de nata at one of the numerous Pastelerias. Dine on the promenade in the evening, with plenty of choice of traditional restaurants. 

Along the waterfront you will also find the "Mercado Municipal", these market halls are a 'must' because of the wide variety of fresh fish and seafood and an extensive range of locally grown fruit and vegetables. The market halls are surrounded by terraces, where you can enjoy the view of the boats, with jazz music playing from one of the local cafes in the background. On Saturdays there is a farmers market from 0800-1300 hours, where the whole village and other villages from the area  come together for their daily shopping.


Tip: enjoy the delicious local wines and delicious cheeses and olives from the region on the roof terrace at sunset.              


Layout of the house:

Ground floor: Living room with two comfortable sofas & bedrooms.

The two bedrooms are adjacent to the living room and are equipped with a very comfortable bed with luxurious mattresses from DOUX Luxury Comfort. There are two bathrooms with walk-in shower and toilet, one of which is ensuite. 


First floor: Modern, open kitchen, fully equipped with large fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, induction hobs, dishwasher and crockery. The kitchen flows into a lovely covered terrace. Here you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in almost all seasons. 


Private roof terrace:

On the roof we have a private swimming pool (2 x 4 m meters), outdoor shower, sun area with large umbrella and a comfortable lounge seating area for a relaxing sundowner.


Nice to know:

Wifi throughout the house. Nespresso coffee machine, luxury bed linen and towels and hammam towels are provided. Casa Opala's Townhouse is available for rent all year round.

Explanation of the prices & cancellation policy

 Payment: To secure your booking, 30% deposit has to be paid within 24 hrs. The totalbalance has to be paid within 6 weeks prior to the arrival date. If not, your bookingwill be cancelled. In that case we will try to re-let the house to other guests, and wewill see if you qualify for a refund of your deposit as described below.
4.1. Cancellation by us: In case of a cancellation by us, because of "Force majeure", werefund 100% of the payments made.
Section 4.2. Cancellation by you: In case of cancellation more than 6 weeks before the start of the stay, 50% of the deposit will be returned No refund will be made for a cancellation within the 6-week period. We therefore recommend cancellation insurance.
5. Damage deposit: A €350,- deposit should be paid by bank transfer 6 weeks beforearrival. This amount is refundable under the condition that all the terms andconditions have been respected. The house and contents must be left in goodorder, clean and without any damage beyond normal wear and tear. In case of damage, you agree to reimburse the total costs for special clean-up, missing items, repairs and/or replacements. Your responsibility is not limited to the damage deposit amount. The deposit has to be paid by bank transfer. A refund will be transferred by bankwithin 14 working days following your departure. Please provide us with your IBANand further bank-details for the transfer. After receiving the credit invoice for thedeposit, please sign it and email it back to us for confirmation.

"Mercados de Olhão" these covered market halls are spread over 2 buildings on the waterfront on the left the vegetable, fruit, meat and cheese section.
And on the right the fresh fish section.
Open Monday to Saturday from 07:00-13:00
On the quayside there is a farmers' market on Saturdays with local products from the region.
We recommend everyone to get your daily fresh groceries here.

Cape Vicente, beautiful rock walls and beautiful surfing beaches for enthusiasts
Olhão and other historic villages in the area - such as Tavira, just a half hour drive from the Spanish border - are lively and cozy in the off season. Olhão is surrounded by the "Ilhas" islands with beautiful beaches, and the Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa. This is a national park, where you can hike fantastic and can spot rare birds. The two main beaches are Ilha da Culatra and Ilha da Armona. They are accessible by regular ferry from the jetty in Olhão throughout the year. The boat trip takes about half an hour and takes you to beautiful beaches, where mass tourism is hard to find.
