The Stramproy area has a rich history. A short walk through the village will give you a good impression of this, with the beautiful Sint-Willibrorduskerk as the main attraction. Other notable sights are the Stramproy windmills, including the Sint-Jan standard windmill, the Nijs belt mill and the Broekmolen. This old water mill is located on the Abeek, a tributary of the Maas. From Stramproy you can also make several nice trips in the local area. You should definitely visit the ‘white town’ of Thorn, with its famous white half-timbered houses. If you want to do some shopping you can go to Weert and Maaseik in Belgium. Nice things to know about Stramproy

• Stramproy used to be called "Stramprode", which means something like ‘reclaimed forest’.
• Besides tourism, mushrooms are a particularly important source of income for Stramproy. There are a number of large mushroom companies in the southwest of the village
• De Sint-Willibrorduskerk is dedicated to Saint Willibrord. He would often stay in Stramproy during his travels from Waalre (near Eindhoven) to Aldeneik and Susteren.
• Probably the most famous resident of Stramproy was Mary Servaes, better known as the Zangeres Zonder Naam (The Unnamed Singer), who lived here from 1966 until her death in 1998.
