Nature, tranquility and space. † Welcome to Hof Caerdebeeck!
Hof Caerdebeeck is a farm from 1269, around a closed courtyard, owned for centuries by the monastery of St. Gerlach, with a unique historical history. You will stay in the heart of this national monument; in the original farmhouse.
Caerdebeeck is located in the middle of a beautiful nature reserve. A gently sloping area with many meadows, fruit and vegetable gardens. An ideal walking and cycling environment. There are many sources around Caerdebeeck. One of the Municipality's water catchment areas is also located behind and around Caerdebeeck. Around the corner is the Kunrader Quarry, which has been dormant for several decades since the emergence of brick, but has been back in use since 2012, thanks to the increasing demand for traditional limestone.
The kitchen overlooks the attractive courtyard with a pond with water lilies. From 8.00 in the morning there is sun here and you can have breakfast in peace and quiet by the pond. On a clear night you can enjoy a beautiful Moon. Due to the reflection of the heat within the four wings, the inner courtyard is about 2 degrees warmer than the environment outside.
't Hof contains a variety of plants and shrubs in and around the pond. In addition to a number of rose bushes, there is also an olive, peach and fig tree.
't Hof is also the 'favorite hangout' of well-known and lesser-known birds. In addition to great tits, magpies and blackbirds, one of our guests recently discovered the rare bullfinch. The swallows have made Hof Caerdebeeck their permanent residence. They return annually to their nests, which are artfully hung from beams. The kestrels also have a permanent nest in the courtyard. There is also a barn owl nest box. The barn owl was still on the list of endangered species in the 1970s.
Located in the courtyard, near the pond and the old well, on a blue stone staircase, your entrance.
In the entrance hall there are three rooms: a cozy old-fashioned farmhouse kitchen with a large dining table and modern conveniences such as fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven, filter coffee and Nespresso machine. The bedrooms adjoin the kitchen. Opposite the kitchen is an authentic 'beautiful' room, which, except for a modern 60-inch smart TV, is still largely in its original condition. All rooms are on the ground floor and have central heating. The wood-burning stove cannot be used until the chimney has undergone some work.
Behind Caerdebeeck you can enter the orchard through a gate, where the sheep graze. From June you can pick cherries here. From the end of July, snow apples from which you can make apple sauce yourself. In July and August the Japanese wineberry, resembling small raspberries, delicious in yogurt.
